Re: The Thread of Democrats
Our member from Yellowknife has just demonstrated his inability to understand memes or his enthusiasm for wilfully misinterpreting them, so I'll give it a miss for now.

No she didn't. Hermit has already shown she was quote mined for a joke.Cunt wrote: ↑Mon May 03, 2021 4:14 amWhitner advocates smoking 2500 bucks worth per year, men women and children.
Conservatively, that amounts to more than an ounce every 2 weeks.
For children.

Left-handed cigarettes.

You sure hate Democrats Cunt.

I can't decide if you saw I was joking, and ran ALL the way with it, or if you are fact-checking a joke...Hermit wrote: ↑Mon May 03, 2021 7:12 amAnd while Whitmer clearly doesn’t see pot taxes as a viable option to fund the state’s much-needed infrastructure repair, she stressed that her budget proposal would address those issues, and urged conference-goers to express their support.

Either way, got a chuckle out of me.

Re: The Thread of Democrats
Context matters. If someone like, say, Brian Peacock had posted that meme and those comments I would have recognised them as jokes immediately. With your repeatedly demonstrated inability to understand memes and enthusiasm for wilful misinterpretations I cannot believe you were joking. I would, had you stuck those posts in one of the already existing threads with the word "joke" in their title.Cunt wrote: ↑Mon May 03, 2021 3:46 pmI can't decide if you saw I was joking, and ran ALL the way with it, or if you are fact-checking a jokeHermit wrote: ↑Mon May 03, 2021 7:12 amAnd while Whitmer clearly doesn’t see pot taxes as a viable option to fund the state’s much-needed infrastructure repair, she stressed that her budget proposal would address those issues, and urged conference-goers to express their support.

Nuanced views are possible, Cunt...
All employees deserve the right to be in a union, with the collective bargaining power it gives; individuals cannot bargain with employers on an equal footing. Clearly, this also includes the police.
Protecting membership is one of the roles of unions, but for any union, it has its perils. In Australia, the building unions are pretty powerful. They have, at times, protected members and union officials whose actions, from a neutral point of view, deserve censure. Police unions will have an automatic reflex to protect members who are facing disciplinary action; this inevitably means at times defending the indefensible. They need sometimes to think what they are defending, and purely provide the minimum legal assistance required...

Re: The Thread of Democrats
It is quite possible to like the concept of unionism and simultaneously object to the way US police unions operate.

Re: The Thread of Democrats
If employees were given a choice of unions, it might work, but so far I haven't seen a union I wanted to be part of. Had to join a couple anyway, but none would have convinced me on its merits.
Forced 'membership' and 'brotherhood' creeped me out.
