Where do you draw the line with rights to own weapons specifically designed to kill people anyway? Fully automatic assault rifles? Machine guns? 50mm Bofors? Is that even a power you like to have?

Nothing under a six inch Bofors counts.

Pro gun means pro private ownership of guns.
And, in the US context, with no restrictions whatsoever. In Oz, we do have private ownership of guns, but with the need to register as a gun owner, and with restrictions on the type of guns.

I don't even know what you think of the basic rights. They are fairly clear, yes/no things.
Do you think other people have the right to own property?
Do you think they have the right to protect it?
My answers to those were key for knowing where I stood on it.

We don't live in a war zone, Daggles. Locking doors is our preferred method of defending life and property. It works very well too.

Guns are tools for the emotionally and physically insecure. The presumed malignancy of others is just an excuse for the private ownership of something that gives people, typically men, a palpable sense of power, control, and authority over others. All so-called rational arguments for private gun ownership are post-hoc justifications which dress up emotions, desires, passions, and lusts as if they were reason. It's not the threat of severely limiting access to personal firearms which is emasculating, but the desire to possess and use them in the first place. The sense of power and pleasure experienced by gun owners is essentially no different to that experienced by the schoolboy who puts the ant under a magnifying glass to cook it or pulls the legs off a frog to watch it wriggle.
Just saying.

I am very happy I live in Europe where sanity prevails. The idea that the street is a battlefield is pure madness and that people have to protect themselves is even madder. We have a pretty good police force that does that job quite well. In all my European travels I have never felt the need for a weapon of any sort wherever I have been including Eastern European countries.

The reality is that most streets aren’t battlefields, but there are many in the states that really really want to believe that for some reason I can’t really fathom. That’s not to say there aren’t streets that are battlefields. They just don’t happen to be in Kansas. And you probably won’t experience them if you are white.

The idea that there are gun carrying lunatics thinking they are in the frontline of a non existing war when I walk the streets is something I have never experienced and definitely something I would not wont ever to experience.

So no?
It looks like you all think that others don't have the right to own, or defend their own property.
That's the basic difference, see?
I'm not saying you or I should change our mind, just that is where the difference is.
