Said Peter...what you're requesting just isn't my bag
Said Daemon, who's sorry too, but y'see we didn't have no choice
And our hands they are many and we'd be of one voice
We've come all the way from Wigan to get up and state
Our case for survival before it's too late
Turn stone to bread, said Daemon Duncetan
Turn stone to bread right away...

Re: Neurons and memory
Not very likely that we will look at individual neurons soon, for decision making. So they make mpdels

Re: Neurons and memory
I was walking looking for birds, not many found. But I then came to think of artificial intelligence. With my Basic skills, it would not be hard to write a chess program with IF and THEN routines. I'll type up the concept better at home.

Enjoy sea hares fucking!
They can't be Republicans cause they are hermaphrodites. But, still, they would not need but one kind of toilet, in Congress.
Sea slugs are used to study nervous systems, due to the small number of neurons total.

Re: Neurons and memory
We had to do chemistry to make drugs, test them on rats and then have lawyers write the patent. I always wanted to skip the rat and test them on the lawyers.

Re: Neurons and memory
And the results?
I sat with an international group at a cafe in Berkeley. We were high on caffeine. We solved all the world's problems in 3-4 hours. We had a pen but no paper. Writing on napkins did not work very well. But it seemed exhilarating at the time.

I had an animal behavior professor that worked with them for his PhD. He went on to work to restore function in kids with brain injuries, mostly by damaging the brains of rats...man, if they ever cotton on...

Re: Neurons and memory
I have read many articles in the NewScientist about the nematode worm, C elegans , whose cell development is deterministic (a fixed number of cells after full development). They've totally nailed both its full genotype, plus the development pathway and function of every single cell, including nerve cells...

Re: Neurons and memory
That's pretty cool. There is a section in the David Eagleman movie I will be showing to my Sep class where a guy had some odd event wipe out much of his sensory input. He can activate his arms and legs but he has to watch them as he moves, as there is no feeling of touch in the foot.Sean Hayden wrote: ↑Sun Feb 28, 2021 4:17 amSea slugs are used to study nervous systems, due to the small number of neurons total.

Re: Neurons and memory
The nervous system developed in all multicell animals as they got muscles to move. There is a kind of nerve network with no real brain in jellyfish.JimC wrote: ↑Sun Feb 28, 2021 5:57 amI have read many articles in the NewScientist about the nematode worm, C elegans , whose cell development is deterministic (a fixed number of cells after full development). The sponges developed layers of cells but no organs. They can pump water, that's it. The flagellum is the start of muscles. Though no animal uses a collection of flagella to propel the whole animal. Wiki: Choanocytes (type of flagellum) can also turn into spermatocytes when needed for sexual reproduction, due to the lack of reproductive organs in sponges (amoebocytes become the oocytes).
