The 'very fine people' hoax seems to have worked, and been clearly an example of fake news. It could also be confirmed immediately, since it related to a recorded speech.

How many have repeated it as if it were true? The ones who are lying most deliberately, have the good sense to phrase their support of the fake news with weasel words, or corporate communication, or whatever you call it...

Even better, who has leapt to correct such bullshit? If a lie such as

Trump said Nazis were very fine people

is told, how many people will call it out? Will it only be Republicans who call it out? Or will Democrats do the work as well?

When someone goes off debunking stuff, what they focus on can be really funny. Sometimes, they look more like politicians than any kind of 'debunker'.

Those fact-checkers, and the fact-checkers-of-fact-checkers...it seems like it's fact-checkers all the way down.

At first I thought he meant you'd need both sides to agree before calling it fake news, because we were talking about identifying fake news.

You don't need a lie everyone agrees is a lie to identify bias either though. You can invent the lie, and be the only one who's heard it so far. It doesn't matter. You just need to know what preference a belief in the lie reveals, and whether it persists despite corrections.

Remember, there are those who vehemently deny each of those statements. Depending on how you see the concept of "sides", by your basic argument, since both "sides" cannot come to an agreement, they remain fake news...

What makes you say that? I have tested your assertion by googling the following words by Trump, and got hits from Washington post, CNN, NBC, PBS, Facebook, Twitter and so forth, as well as any fact-checking sites I could think of.

Racism is evil. And those who cause violence in its name are criminals and thugs, including the KKK, neo-Nazis, white supremacists, and other hate groups that are repugnant to everything we hold dear as Americans.
