And yet you dismissed even the possibility of valid criticism from the off. Interesting...
Valid criticism would be someone who understood their argument well enough to 'steelman' it.
I haven't heard it yet, but it might not be as important to me as it is to you. I just listen to their podcast.

Choosing one's sources is a fairly vital component of understanding what's going on.
Just as when the choice of sources involve religious opinion based on faith, vs a broad scientific consensus on matters such as evolution, I know what sources I'll be choosing when it comes to coronavirus, climate change etc.

To me, it looks like I would not choose you (a person who hasn't listened to the podcast) as a source on the value of the information presented in the podcast.

About five years ago I attempted to steelman geocentrism and failed utterly. Does that mean I don't understand the geocentric argument very well?

How could you tell when you've admitted that you don't understand it either?

I can tell that I have heard it, and if someone hasn't done that much, they certainly can't 'steelman' it.

That's bogus. There's no need to steelman someone else's position (demonstrate an ability to argue their point on their terms) if one is willing to address it charitably and in good faith.

I still don't know what you disagree with, with them. That's one reason to steelman their position.
Or you could just continue to not listen to them, while insisting something about them is wrong. That's cool too.

Telling your interlocutor to "steelman" seems an awful lot like trying to get them to do your work for you...

Not 'my interlocutor', but Weinsteins (I'm guessing)
If you disagree with something, you have to be able to say what that something is...don't you?
Or is it enough that someone told you they were bad?

Your presuming I disagree with something-or-other because I haven't steelmanned whatever it is you think is agreeable - but which you also admitted you don't understand. I'm calling bullshit on that I'm afraid. If you think someone has a good point about something then represent it and we can have a chat about it. Your whole schtik here is to place conditions on others that you avoid placing on yourself. If you don't think that's correct then perhaps you should try to steelman my point-of-view.

OK, you don't disagree.
I contend that I like their podcast, and enjoy their view.
Your point of view? I think it is that I should provide proof that I enjoy their view on things.
Or maybe you would like to listen to them, and discuss one of their views which you find interesting...
