The Coronavirus Thread
Re: The Coronavirus Thread
The Dark Horse podcast talks about 'when are we looking at forced consensus', in science, and the lab leak hypothesis.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread
Right, because ignoring the overwhelming majority of professional opinion from real virologists and epidemic experts in favour of 2 or 3 general biologists with political axes to grind makes so much sense...

Yabbut Bret W. self-identifies as 'far-left progressive' and Heather H. is near the same. Check mate, centrist!

Re: The Coronavirus Thread
I don't mind that you say so, but I don't think you've listened to them, nor can you say what they are wrong about. Instead, it is just the kinds of 'takedowns' that I would see on CNN.
But I have listened to them.
If something they claimed was contradicted, it could be significant, but just because a few people saw 2 minutes on the TV, doesn't make their criticisms all that useful.
Re: The Coronavirus Thread
If there are any valid arguments you can repeat them here. It's that simple. There aren't any. "Someone I like believes it" is not a valid argument.
Re: The Coronavirus Thread
If you listened to them, you wouldn't find anything significant to disagree with.
As to bringing their arguments here, I showed you the podcast. If there is an argument in there you want, feel free to pull it out.
I like that they are willing to talk about subjects which are often censored on mainstream channels. I've always distrusted book-burners, though. Probably my misspent youth. Bradbury, Orwell, and Carlin might have warped my brain against some kinds of manipulation.
Re: The Coronavirus Thread
So, no arguments then.
Re: The Coronavirus Thread
I don't know of anything they have said which you would disagree with. Maybe there is, but mostly I just listen to their podcast. Their political idea was the most interesting thing about them (I like the 'tilting at windmills' mememe)

Re: The Coronavirus Thread
So, you insist we listen to some fringe podcast rather than giving us an incisive summary of their arguments, and the scientific evidence behind them.
Perhaps you are simply incapable of creating such a summary.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread
I don't remember insisting. I was sharing it because I liked it.
As to a summary, I'll have a go even though you seem a bit cranky.
One idea I enjoyed of theirs, was the Unity2020 party. They failed, but tried to arrange to make a republican and democrat share power, mostly through consensus, but also through taking turns, through their term.
They got a lot of support, and had good momentum. Which is another way of saying they were tilting at windmills. Wishing they could get the sides together.
Yet another, was that Bret (self-identified progressive) said that he wished he could be a conservative. Meaning he wished that the world was so good, there was no progress remaining to be made.
Not really contraversial, I'm afraid. They don't seem too outrageous to me.

We are talking about the corona virus.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread
So is our member from Yellowknife. As NineBerry pointed out, his argument goes "It is true that the Coronavirus escaped or was released from a Chinese laboratory, where it was made, rather than from bats, because a couple of people whose brain farts I like said so." It might not be a valid argument, as NineBerry also pointed out, but our member from Yellowknife sticks to it, come hell or high water.

Except in his last reply where he didn't mention it at all, despite Jim discussing it.

He refuses to discuss any issue in depth, preferring to offer empty rhetoric and red herrings. Some might even see that as trolling.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread
Yes, and they had comments on that. One is that they leave the possibility open that it may have been a lab leak. They leave wilder ones on the table, too, but not with very high probability. If I recall correctly, 'deliberate release' was at 1%. They also pointed out that if it was a deliberate release, it probably wasn't the Wuhan lab trying to set themselves up...
I haven't ruled anything out yet, but I'm sure the highly paid news anchors will tell only the truth, and it will be uncluttered by politics or vulgar motivations like money.
