The alternative is that they aren't purposely manipulating us with a callous disregard for the harm it's doing, but in fact just believe, like Trump, that the election has been stolen, the pandemic is a hoax, Russian interference never happened, climate change can't be real because God runs the planet, and the market cures all ills...
