All those meat alternatives and cheap animal feed are making a lovely mess.
Revealed: UK supermarket and fast food chicken linked to deforestation in Brazil
Tesco, Lidl, Asda, McDonald’s and Nando’s all source chicken fed on soya from Cerrado tropical biome region
Supermarkets and fast food outlets are selling chicken fed on imported soya linked to thousands of forest fires and at least 300 sq miles (800 sq km) of tree clearance in the Brazilian Cerrado, a joint cross-border investigation has revealed.
Tesco, Lidl, Asda, McDonald’s, Nando’s and other high street retailers all source chicken fed on soya supplied by trading behemoth Cargill, the US’s second largest private company. The combination of minimal protection for the Cerrado – a globally important carbon sink and wildlife habitat – with an opaque supply chain and confusing labelling systems, means that shoppers may be inadvertently contributing to its destruction.
The broadcaster and campaigner Chris Packham said the revelations showed that consumers needed to be given more information about their food. “Most people would be incredulous when they think they’re buying a piece of chicken in Tesco’s which has been fed on a crop responsible for one of the largest wholesale tropical forest destructions in recent times,” he said.
Eat local organic produce.

Not to mention the water use, soil degradation, or the carbon footprint.

But that's how we avoid Roundup. Feed the soybeans to chickens, eat chickens. No Roundup left.

I'm waiting for them to breed chickens that die of heart attacks when fully grown. That way they don't need to be slaightered. Just put a beeper on esch chicken. Employ illegal aliens to collect chickens who just died. Or maybe a shit detector, under caged chickens. The chicken no longer shitting is dead.

Nothing to do with meat alternatives. 70% of soy goes to feed animals. Only 6% is actually eaten by people. It's entirely the livestock industry that is responsible for this problem.

Meh. Only snowflakes can't take a good ol' dose of glyphosate in their corn-dog.

No? What are they made of? Did I deny anything about animal feed. Soya is the golden bullet in the vegetarian world.

So I guess you think that the 6% of soya that's consumed by humans should be snatched from their mouths and given to 'organic' pigs and chickens?
As I've pointed out many times before veg*ns don't rely on soya products as a necessary substitute for meat. You're assumptions on both counts are misplaced.

Living off MacDonalds and fizzy drinks can be deleterious to one's health too and, in extremis, fatal. You still have to demonstrate that animal-derived food products are a necessary component of a healthy, well-balanced diet which can't be achieved by any other means.
I'm happy to wait while you enjoy your 'organic' soya fed chicken.
