So question for UK Inmates - prior to this lock down, were most people following guidelines, wearing masks and doing the Social Distance Shuffle?
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Not UK, but for Germany I can say that a sizable part of the population wasn't following guidelines and that guidelines were partly non-sensical (like allowed concepts for restaurants that are totally not strict enough)

People here are wearing masks in the stores, pretty much, it's rare to see anyone without one. All the shop personnel are wearing them. Social distancing is a joke. Of course we have thousands of new cases every day just here in Florida, luckily deaths are in low double digits. There is zero chance of a lockdown, though. Even if Biden gets in and tries to institute a nationwide lockdown I think many states will simply refuse to comply, and forget about a national mask mandate, that is a non-starter no matter what Joe thinks.

I don't think shops are a big problem (at least not in Germany) but rather restaurants, pubs and private celebrations, public transport and the elephant in the room: schools.

Likely the same here. Restaurants are running at 100% capacity, though you still can't sit at the bar. I can't see the kids, because they're both bartenders and I really don't want to catch this shit.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

We like to take some perverse pride in our dangerous fauna, so we don't mention how limited those dangers are. Magpies are no exception. We kind of neglect to mention that Magpies only swoop for six weeks of the year, only the males do the swooping and then only 15% of them. Also, you have to get to within a hundred metres of their nesting places, so you're safe from magpie attacks in 99.9% of Australia. They are basically cute and playful birds who are given a bad reputation for bragging rights.

And they'll sing for their lunch. Couple of juveniles at Glenelg.

Here, establishments open to the public were very strict, but in the street, the mask wearing was a lot sloppier.

In my experience, pretty much yeah. I was in Leeds three or four weeks ago and all shops etc had things like distance markers on the floor, one-way routes through stores, hand sanitising stations at entrance and exit, signs up asking people to wear a mask. In Scotland we've been doing that pretty much since the end of the hard lockdown, but since the government told us to 'Eat Out to Help Out' at the beginning of August (subsidising meals out up to a value £10) people have been increasingly feeling and acting more 'normally'. A report published on Friday suggested that the 'Eat Out to Help Out' scheme accounted for around a 12% increase in infections.

Yep wearing a mask in a force 8 gale makes a lot of sense.

Here in Victoria we've had 2 days in a row of zero new cases or deaths. Masks are still compulsory. I'm hoping that at some stage they'll move to them only being compulsory on public transport and public indoor spaces, so that we can go for a walk outdoors without one. Next weekend that barrier of movement out of Melbourne into regional Victoria is scheduled to end; we'll head to central Victoria to buy bread at a fantastic bakery, then have a meal with Bron's sister.
