rEv. You seem to be swinging between Capitalism in the abstract and Capitalism in practice. How about this: I completely accept that exploitation is an endemic feature of the system. The concept of race, and its expression in racism, facilitates an element of that exploitation. Note that I haven't said that Capitalism is only based or founded on racism, only that it ensures, necessitates (makes necessary), and facilitates it - it's a 'driving principle' not the 'driving principle'. For example, when the system discriminates against people socially or economically, either through tradition, or the by enforcement of norms through The Law, then we can say that discrimination is an endemic feature of the system. Then we look to what forces and interests are operating the system, which I call big-P Power. And then we look to where Power lies. The 'driving principle' (I could have been more specific but I thought it was clear enough in context) I'm talking about pertains to everything which maintains and facilitates racism in a Capitalist system, which I'd suggest isn't something that's only limited to the economic sphere. There's more that can be said here but I'm out for the day. If you want we can pick this up in the Capitalism thread later?

More Anglo-Saxon rhetoric. In a social democratic state capitalism (small "c") has its place but the Anglo-Saxon rampant Capitalism has no place in any society.

I agree that it facilitates and probably ensures racism, but necessitates? I'd ask again, why would capital care what colour the labour it exploits is? All that matters is profit. Not the colour from which that profit is extracted.Brian Peacock wrote:rEv. You seem to be swinging between Capitalism in the abstract and Capitalism in practice. But it's always a fight to restrain capitalism from going rogue like it is in, say, the US. You can never let your guard down.Scot Dutchy wrote:More Anglo-Saxon rhetoric. Crap. Capitalism does not necessitate racism. Just look at the industrial revolution in 18th century England.Brian Peacock wrote: ↑Wed Oct 07, 2020 6:18 am- Capitalism is the over-arching system of Power.

Good thing Biden is going to win. That way Hillary will do no jail time. She will be pardoned first thing.

If documents exist that show Hillary committed a crime, why haven't they been released?Tero wrote: ↑Wed Oct 07, 2020 11:21 amGood thing Biden is going to win. That way Hillary will do no jail time. She will be pardoned first thing.

Beg pardon? in 18th c. England, the non English whether Irish (the Irish gentry and nobility were English by that time), or from other parts of the Emire, and blacks (those who were not actually enslaved) were mostly confined to the lower classes, low grade employees, very rarezly skilled ones, and never so high as business owner. And those who were not actually affilated to the state church were barred from any kind of social advancement.Hermit wrote: ↑Wed Oct 07, 2020 9:04 amCrap. Capitalism does not necessitate racism. Absolutely nothing. Trump is simply frustrated, not being able to leave the white house. He is trying to "win" the 2016 election by erasing Hillary and her 3 million more popular votes.rainbow wrote: ↑Wed Oct 07, 2020 12:15 pmIf documents exist that show Hillary committed a crime, why haven't they been released?Tero wrote: ↑Wed Oct 07, 2020 11:21 amGood thing Biden is going to win. Svarty, where did I say racism did not exist during the industrial revolution in 18th century England?Svartalf wrote: ↑Wed Oct 07, 2020 2:03 pmBeg pardon? in 18th c. Re: US Election 2020
Sure, all those loom workers, and their children, toiling in the dark satanic mills, and the Welsh, English and Scottish miners risking their lives on a daily basis to scrape a meagre living from the bowels of the Earth were, on the whole, ethnically homogeneous. But where did the cotton for those mills come from, or the ore that that coal smelted? Who built the railways which brought those commodities to the factory and foundry and took the products thereof back to the ports for export? How were those resource commodities acquired; the tea for the China cups of genteel ladies and the tobacco that filled their husbands' pipes? How was the violent oppression and exploitation of the peoples and lands of far away black, brown and yellow people justified, and who enforced those forms of oppression, exploitation and theft; and who benefitted from it? Was racism not a feature of the system from the off?Hermit wrote:Crap. Capitalism does not necessitate racism. Re: US Election 2020
...from the Texas Supreme Court's decision preventing Harris county from sending voters a mail-in ballot...
Let that sink in.the court ruled against Hollins, stating that voting documents are accessible online and that while they are typically sent out by political campaigns or other private organizations, distribution from a government official would exceed the official's legal authority.
The latest fad is a poverty social. Every woman must wear calico,
and every man his old clothes. In addition each is fined 25 cents if
he or she does not have a patch on his or her clothing. If these
parties become a regular thing, says an exchange, won't there be
a good chance for newspaper men to shine?
