I wondered which, if any of you are fans of "Friends". I know a lot of people hate it, I absolutely loved the show and can watch it again and again, for me it is the ultimate comfort show.

So did you like it? Favourite episodes, lines, scenes etc?

I loved the show too and I'm not ashamed to admit it.

I like comfort television and I enjoy reading comfort books and listening to comfort music. I don't like it when people act as if they are superior based on something as unimportant and subjective as personal taste in popular culture. It's a pet peeve of mine.

I think I must have seen every episode at one time or another and I do still enjoy watching the repeats.

@ Bella, I think I recall you being decidedly unimpressed by my taste in music on one of the RDF threads. Well, just to cement the 'impression' , I loved 90210 and Dawson's Creek as well.

I don't like it either. And I don't see why something has to be regarded as vacuous just because it isn't Tolstoy.

When I started this thread I did expect to be bombarded with "I would never watch such rubbish" posts.. I mean hell, life is about enjoyingt yourself and if I enjoy watching Friends I will do.

I love Friends! Between me and my sister-in-law, we own the whole series on DVD. We pass them back and forth to each other. One of my favorite shows ever! I actually didn't really watch it on TV as the new episodes came out. I watched most of them for the first time on DVD.

I found it absolutely insufferable, to be honest Too contrived, too self-conscious
I wonder...what is its charm for you? Is the fact that it's an American show make it more endearing to you? I ask this because, for me, I'm predisposed to liking anything British. Any British seems to me inherently more clever than anything American. Most American shows seem like pap to me, spoon-fed to the ignorant masses. I really liked Seinfeld, though.

Nothing to do with it being American, simply I enjoyed it - liked the characters, their interactions, I still find it amusing when I watch it, I enjoyed the storylines.. to me it also felt comforting.. like you were a part of the circle of friends..

I was ill three years ago with cancer and was off work for four months and stuck indoors for a good part of that with not much to do. I started watching the series and got hooked. Eventually I ended up buying the whole fucking series on DVD!

I know - I feel deeply ashamed. It won't happen again, I promise!

I dislike Seinfeld at first. I watched a couple episodes because I wondered what all the fuss was about. It seemed unfunny to me. Kramer was particularly annoying. He was just trying waaaaaay too hard to be funny, wacky, kooky, whatever. Watching him, I could feel my lips forming a sneer. But the odd thing was, the more episodes I watched, the more I liked the show. It seemed to ave a cumulative effect. At a certain point, quite to my surprise, I found I loved the show
