Where is the control group? Pure supposition.

We obtain a synthetic control group that closely follows the Covid-19 trend before introduction of mandatory masks in Jena and the difference between Jena and this group is very large after 6 April. Our findings indicate that the early introduction of face masks in Jena has resulted in a reduction of almost 25% in the cumulative number of reported Covid-19 cases after 20 days. The drop is greatest, larger than 50%, for the age group 60 years and above. Our results are robust when we conduct sensitivity checks and apply several placebo tests, e.g. tests for pseudo-treatment effects in similarly sized cities in the federal state of Thuringia and for pseudo-treatment effects in Jena before the treatment actually started. We also test for announcement effects.

Constructing control groups for other single regions is not always as straightforward as for Jena. As a consequence, it is harder to identify the effect of face masks in these regions. When we move from single to multiple treatment effects, we find smaller effects. They are still sufficiently large, however, to support our point that wearing face masks is a very cost-efficient measure for fighting Covid-19. When we summarize all of our findings in one single measure (we compare all measures in appendix B.4), we conclude that the daily growth rate of Covid-19 cases in the synthetic control group falls by around 40% due to mandatory mask-wearing relative to the control group. ...

I searched for scientific proof, and the scientists told me I was searching for a mirage. I was not so easily dissuaded.

That the Jena observation is not accepted because of all the other measures that were introduced and conclusions were drawn as if the masks was the main measure which according to many was not the case and the comparison to other regions has been brought very much into doubt.
I would rather take the word of the old Swedish and Dutch geezers. The Jena experience is considered only an observation and not a scientific trial as the two many variables unaccounted for.
Masks were not the only measure taken and the RIVM says the most effective measures are personal hygiene and social distancing.
Tegnell has argued that evidence about the effectiveness of face mask use was “astonishingly weak.”
The old Swedish geezer.
Alleen in de stad Jena werd een sterke afname van infecties gezien. Tegelijkertijd introduceerde Jena strikte quarantaine maatregelen bij griepverschijnselen en positieve besmettingen.
(Only in the city of Jena was there visible a very strong reduction of infections.Jena introduced at the same a strict quarantine measures by symptoms of flue and positive infections.)

And include the numbers then you can ask is it worth imposing such a socially stifling measure. We say no.

Prove it. It is as accurate as the figures of Africa. You don't believe those do you? All that great social health care that goes on with the top notch health services. "People in glass houses should not throw stones". Get your own house in order but that is impossible now is it with all the corruption.
My wife was a charity aid worker in Africa and experienced it first hand. She just laughs when she sees the numbers. She wonders who is making money out of them because nothing happens unless someone is getting back handers.

Do you think that the African numbers are higher or lower than the reality?

What about South America?

The same is true there. Nothing happens without the lubrication of money.

I cant and wont say Jim. I just dont know but based on scale of corruption someone will be earning on it. It is a simple fact of life and as my sister living in Mexico says you just get used to it.
Corruption destroys so much that is not replaceable.

Corruption means that the death numbers are at the same time too high and too low.
