Police in Albuquerque on Tuesday announced they had arrested a former city council candidate who they say shot and wounded a man at a protest that grew contentious as demonstrators clashed with a militia group.

Boogaloo boys in CA:

Authorities allege that Steven Carrillo, an adherent of the radical Boogaloo movement, which openly anticipates a civil war, killed one security guard and injured another. Officials say he was aided by Robert Justus, who is accused of driving a van that authorities said Carrillo fired from. Carrillo was previously arrested in connection with the killing of a sheriff’s deputy in June.

Former Atlanta police officer Garrett Rolfe has been charged with murder after the shooting death of a 27-year-old black man.

Rayshard Brooks was killed in the parking lot of a fast-food restaurant last week during a scuffle in which the father of four grabbed a taser from police and attempted to run away.

Mr Rolfe faces charges including felony murder and assault with a deadly weapon, Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard told a news conference in Atlanta.

Devin Brosnan, another white officer who was on the scene, will cooperate with prosecutors, Mr Howard added.

Video of the incident appeared to show Mr Brooks pointing the Taser at Mr Rolfe before being shot.

An autopsy conducted on Sunday showed Mr Brooks was shot twice in the back and died from blood loss and organ injuries.

The local medical examiner's office ruled the death a homicide.
