I think it'll significantly change the social and political economy we've developed since the end of the post-war consensus. Even now as the usual suspects are desperately trying to get back to 'normal' the old structures are looking increasingly precarious.

You'll have old geezers talking about pubs.JimC wrote: ↑Tue May 05, 2020 9:06 pmYou'll have old geezers in pubs, telling all the young people how they've never had it so good, and that living through a pandemic would be the making of them!Brian Peacock wrote: ↑Tue May 05, 2020 5:31 pmThere is no 'post corona' btw. What we'll have is BP, before pandemic, and AP, after pandemic. The latter won't bear much relation to the former.![]()

I'll be joining The Party, but only for business reasons.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Since the age of university management, government and all the other juicy positions has been increasing in near lockstep with those who are now in their 70's and 80's, I think one of the big upheavals will be younger people taking over.
In the past, elders gave it over to the young. That was cute and everything, but I don't think they'll give it up willingly now. Hell, look at the presidential field...all too old to take their opponents into a pit-fight with broadswords.

It's the middle-aged you got to watch out for - they're frightened of getting old and resentful of the young.

Track the average age of our 'leaders', and you'll see most of the power (in the US certainly) is moving up into older and older groups.
It's like when I was young, and my boss wanted to get into a group insurance program. It cost WAY too much, to my young eyes, but supported the elders WAY more than it supported the young.
And all the ones making the decisions were gray, old and unfit.
I gave up working there. They have purged all the elders from their management (sort of) but now they have all moved into the Board of Directors. Funny how they all retired from their day jobs, but took over everything else they could...

Well Australia enjoy your restricted freedom:
Australians’ personal freedoms could be under serious threat with the new Asio bill
Australians’ personal freedoms could be under serious threat with the new Asio bill
Questioning children as young as 14 and the use of tracking and surveillance devices can hardly be described as ‘nonintrusive’
No one should be surprised that the introduction of the Australian Security and Intelligence Act 1979 (Cth) (Asio Act) into the parliament has been met with some trepidation.
The idea of Asio being able to question children as young as 14 or having the power to slip a “nonintrusive” tracking device into, for example, an open handbag, without so much as a warrant does not sit well with many Australians.
The government will argue that these amendments are necessary to ensure the continued safety of Australia and its people. And it is inarguable that our security and law enforcement agencies must have appropriate powers to detect, prevent and prosecute terrorist activities to protect the Australian community.

Many of the 14 year old boys I taught were terrorists in waiting...

Well the sauna can open on the first of July and not the first of September that's how serious it is. People are screaming to return to some form of normality.

First instances of outbreaks after reopening in Germany:
27 confirmed cases in a restaurant.
200 confirmed cases following one church service.
I'll certainly avoid any indoor events until this is over

I think outdoor events/entertainments will be strongly developed in the next while.
