Guardian
'Now it starts again': new coronavirus outbreaks spark unease in China
[p]Cases rise in Shulan, near the Russian border, and in Wuhan, where stringent lockdown measures had been eased in recent weeks[/p]
An untraced coronavirus outbreak in a Chinese city near the Russian border and a spate of new cases in Wuhan has prompted fears of a fresh wave of infections in China.
On Sunday, Chinese authorities reclassified Shulan, a city near the Russian and North Korean borders, as high risk, after a cluster of cases connected to a woman with no known history of travel or exposure to the virus.
It came just a week after China designated all regions in the country as low or medium risk. On Sunday the country’s national health commission reported 17 new cases, its second day of a double-digit rise and its highest number in nearly two weeks.
Five locally transmitted cases were in three provinces which border Russia or North Korea – three in Jilin, and one each in Heilongjiang and Liaoning.
All of Jilin’s new cases were in Shulan city, including a 28-year-old woman, a 45-year-old man and a 56-year-old man, bringing the city’s total to 12.
Chinese state media, CGTN, said authorities have ordered the temporary closure of all public places in Shulan, including sports facilities, cinemas and libraries, and for all residents to stay home except under “unusual circumstances”. Students in their final year of middle or senior high school will return to online learning, it said. No taxis can leave the city, and all public transport has been suspended.

Local media said the source of Shulan’s chain of infection remained a mystery. Jilin provincial health commission said it originated with a 45-year-old woman who has no residential or travel history outside the province, and no known contact history with people returning from overseas or key provinces.
My Emphasis.

Residential means apartments and hallways. We are less likely tp get it in our single family homes.

Which is true, and may partly explain why people living in low-grade housing and multi-generational households seem to be disproportionately accounted for in the fatalists.

Yep, I called it. Stupid monkeys. The city of Naples had to close their beaches a week after reopening them because the imbecilic fucking monkeys (I can't even call them ground apes any longer, they're not that evolved) can't obey the simplest, most rational, easy to follow rules. This is why we can't have nice things. I am trying hard not to let my natural cynicism and pessimism overwhelm me, but it's getting more and more difficult not to advocate just opening the entire thing up and letting the morons sicken and die. We got plenty of heavy equipment and lots of undeveloped land, we can just push them into big holes and cover them up. Soak them in some of that cheap petrol and toss a match first, helps sterilize them.

One has to wonder where these people are getting their information from along with the quality of the information they're getting.

It wouldn't make any difference, they're immune to information and/or logic.

Well, as for me, I'm staying mostly confined until bars and restaurants open up again, not too much to do before that. That is, unless my friends start gaming face to face again and transports allow me to join them.

I'm not led by Trump's idiocy. You were talking about the WHO when you told your porky. I highlighted it in red for you.
...so you lied about me speaking out against masks.
I said you 'would have', not that you did.

Good job misunderstanding the word 'lie' though. It is a big one.

I never really expect much from you, that isn't raging TDS though...maybe I'll be surprised one day.

Considering how reliable the information is coming out of WHO, CDC and Brix (who doesn't trust CDC data) it would depend largely on which numbers you choose to trust.

I sure don't know. Which sources do you choose to trust?

I only trust R as a source. It's one up from Q. So it must be more reliable

I certainly DON'T trust Q, because (I think) it IS 'R' (Republican propaganda)

But good job answering. Joking instead of saying who is trustworthy, is a good statement on how trustworthy all the usual 'authorities' are.

In the UK the Financial Times has been logging the number of registered deaths against the official figures on Covid-19 deaths (UK coronavirus deaths more than double official figure, according to FT study, 27 Apr. (paywall)) and comparing that with the season average. Something clearly doesn't add up. Today The New York Times published...
64,000 Missing Deaths: Tracking the True Toll of the Coronavirus Outbreak

At least 64,000 more people have died during the coronavirus pandemic than the official Covid-19 death counts report, a review of mortality data in 20 countries shows — providing a clearer, if still incomplete, picture of the toll of the crisis.

Over the last two months, far more people have died in most of these countries than in previous years, The New York Times found. The totals include deaths from Covid-19 as well as those from other causes, likely including people who could not be treated as hospitals became overwhelmed.

...

Mortality data in the middle of a pandemic is not perfect. In most places, the disparities between the official death counts and the total rise in deaths reflect limited testing for the virus rather than intentional undercounting. Officially, about 280,000 people had died worldwide of the coronavirus as of Monday...

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/202 ... eaths.html
... which suggests that the UK is top of the underreporting league with a 65% discrepancy. Now we can quibble about the stats and the data, but I don't think it's unreasonable to suggest that the mortality rate is higher than the official figures show - and perhaps by more than statistical errorbars might allow for: it's hard to tell. But if Covid-19 death are being underreported then we might assume infection rates are similarly affected.

All I'm saying is that we probably shouldn't put too much weight on headline death counts to determine if the infection risk is manageable or not in public health terms.

If verified, that is rather disturbing and smacks political interference or just ignorance and ineptitude.
