Not to mention that we've seen the consequences of easing off restrictions too soon. Japan, Singapore and Denmark are now suffering again because they eased off too early. Scot probably thinks the numbers are manufactured by the illuminati, but come on, is really this thick or is he just bunging it on?Brian Peacock wrote: ↑Tue Apr 21, 2020 8:16 amYou don't know how science works. Epidemics have been studied and modelled since the germ theory of medicine. Certain known factors like how contagious an infection is, how likely it is to kill you if you get it, its distribution in the population at any given time, and/or population densities etc can be plugged into those models. The models give a range of possible outcomes but they're not predictive in the absolute sense of providing a crystal ball into the future.
Now let's pretend you're personally responsible for public health and you're presented with a range of predictions like, say, the Oxford model which suggests Covid-19 will produce a sudden spike in infections and death that will rapidly tail off as people either die or acquire immunity (the so-called sombrero curve) or the Imperial model, which suggest an exponential rise to a point where infection and mortality rates reach a point of stasis before slowly tailing off as people die or become immune or the population shrinks (the so-called plateau curve). The Oxford model suggests more death in the short term but fewer deaths overall, and the Imperial model suggests, well, the end of society as we know it. So do you apply the cautionary principle in the hope of avoiding the worse-case scenario, or do you cross your fingers and hope that the softer predictions turn out to be the case? Or, in your instance, do you put off making a decision and whinny on about how nobody can know anything about anything and pretend that as long as it doesn't touch you personally it doesn't really exist?

Proves just how biased you really are. What exactly is wrong with President Trump putting the reporters back into their proper place? For crying out loud, their proper place is in their name: REPORTER! Not questioner. Their job is to keep their gobs shut and listen, record what they are told, then report what they are told.pErvinalia wrote: ↑Tue Apr 21, 2020 8:34 amOur ABC shows a few minutes of his press conferences live from time to time and I can't believe how shambolic they are. 'Trump Can’t Recall Any Campaign Rallies in Feb, March When Reporter Asks If He Downplayed Coronavirus Risk (There Were Six)'
President Donald Trump came down with a severe case of selective amnesia at his White House coronavirus briefing, pretending that he could not recall any of the six campaign rallies he held during February and March, when world public health officials were warning about the serious risk of coronavirus.
...
When Alcindor finally got a word in edgewise, she correctly pointed out “you held rallies in February and in March.” The Trump campaign held rallies on Feb. 10, 19, 20, 21, and 28, as well as one on March 2nd.
“I don’t know about rallies. I really don’t know about rallies,” Trump said, a ludicrously false claim. “I know one thing, I haven’t left the White House in months, except for a brief moment to give a wonderful ship, the [USNS] Comfort…”
“You held a rally in March,” Alcindor again said, noting an indisputable fact.
“I don’t know, did I hold a rally?” Trump said, waving his arms in a brazen attempt at ducking reality. “I’m sorry, I hold a rally. Did I hold a rally?”

Trump spinning fantasy:
Washington (CNN)A reporter reminded President Donald Trump that he held campaign rallies in February and March. He responded by suggesting he didn't recall these rallies -- and saying that hasn't left the White House in "months" except for a coronavirus-related trip to Virginia in late March.
Trump's laughably obvious false claim about his travels was one of several false claims at his White House coronavirus briefing on Monday.
Trump held five campaign rallies in February and one on March 2. He left the White House on several occasions in March.
After the campaign's last rally on March 2, Trump continued to travel, albeit not frequently. On March 6, he visited the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention headquarters in Atlanta, stopping on the way in Tennessee after a tornado killed 25 people. He then spent the weekend at his Mar-a-Lago club and residence in Florida.

Re: All Things Trump: Is it over yet?
The thing about Taiwan is that it is not officially recognised by most other states, including the US, Canada and all European countries. If your government doesn't recognize that the state exists, you can't have representatives of your government mention it's name.
What's the reason for nearly no country recognizing Taiwan?
It's because the PRC and Taiwan both claim to speak for the whole of China. Taiwan is not only a small Chinese province that seeks autonomy, they see themselves as the rightful rulers of all of China, that's why they call themselves "The Republic of China" and not "Taiwan".
China (PRC) will immediately break ties with any country that recognises Taiwan as a state. The same was true in the other direction until the 1970ies: Most western countries recognised Taiwan as a state but not the PRC because Taiwan excluded this.
Now, in the 70ies most countries wanted to create diplomatic ties with the PRC and therefore had to break ties with Taiwan based on the Taiwanese refusal to accept a state having relations with "both Chinas". Western states wanted relations with the PRC because of its growing economic importance and most importantly because China was leaving the Soviet block and it was preferred to have China as a neutral power in the cold war instead of a full part of the Warsaw Pact.
So, the PRC is now doing to Taiwan exactly what Taiwan had done to the PRC before the 1970ies.
In the meantime, Taiwan has left it's fascist past behind and slowly become a democratic state, but it still clings to the idea of speaking for all of China. Because of that and because they have an realistic fear of being annexed by the PRC in the future, there is a lot of effort to put out propaganda to make the PRC look bad, about the same amount Russia puts into trying to make western Europe look bad. So, any information on China that comes from Taiwanese sources directly or indirectly has to be taken with a grain of salt.

Most 'news' agencies can't afford to air his whole speeches, instead clipping bits out to say whatever they want.
I would think the news agencies deserved some of it.
What was the reporter asking about the rallies?
Was it a 'gotcha' for the news channels to celebrate 'TrumpHate'? Or gathering further information to inform the public about the current virus news from the Presidents office?

I tried listening to the official CCP releases about it, and they didn't touch on this historic bit at all, nor on the fact that Taiwan claims all of China.
It's the problem with propaganda...using it can obscure relevant facts. Like when shitheels try to spread the message that masks aren't good.
When an org like the WHO takes a side (as they clearly have) wouldn't it be better 'optics' to say why?

Nothing excuses Trump's behavior Cunt. Do you imagine a better person faced with the same media couldn't rise above it?

We've seen who they are, what they value.
His behaviour is exactly right.
Tell me about other characters who the media have smeared similarly, and how they 'rose above it'.
Not a casual drive-by either...this is years of relentless paid airtime hating Trump...

Just signing the bill for a crisis effort does not count. Every president does that.
