well, old folk are supposed to be experienced and to know what's best. Look at France, we elected an exceptionally young president, and his doing a shit job on a level that rivals Sharkshyt's tenure
Right. rivals. So the young upstart is not as bad as the geriatric shyster. You seem to complain about stuff just for the sake of having something to complain about. Do STFU already, Svarty.
Stop being racist by asking a French to do what is an essential part of French DNA.

The corrosive effect he's had on the institutions and apparatus of government in the US has almost certainly made it more vulnerable to systematic failures and bureaucratic errors. This is mentioned in the article that Seabass posted.

It's been an ongoing purge of people who carried institutional knowledge and networks of contacts away with them. They've been replaced in many cases (if they have been replaced) by people with questionable qualifications and perhaps limited understanding of the machinery they've been put in charge of.
From all that I've read about the changes Trump has made, that sounds on the money.
Of course it sounds good, it's exactly the kind of rationalizing intelligent people are known for. Whether lemmy can take that analysis and connect it to causes for the situation we find ourselves in now remains to be seen.
Some public health experts say a bigger concern than White House budgets is the steady erosion of a CDC grant program for state and local public health emergency preparedness — the front lines in detecting and battling new disease. But that decline was set in motion by a congressional budget measure that predates Trump.
How much of a role did this play vs lemmy's "corrosive effect", hard to say I guess.
I don't know if you believe that I think Trump (with his obvious delight in taking a wrecking ball to the institutions of the US government) is the only defective element in the US response to the pandemic, but nothing I've written leads to that conclusion. Who do you think instituted the congressional budget measure mentioned in your quote? One possible clue: the Congress that immediately predated Trump was controlled by the Republican party.

I thought he inherited the post, like Trudeau, Bush or Merkells successor...

Goodness. Looks like Trump was right about chloroquine. I can just hear the wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Of course he was. Consider how the media (and a few posters here) react to anything he says, and use it as a barometer.

I'm shocked that no-one is asking about the woman he had that general rescue, but my guess is that it is more of the same. No point in sharing a positive story about him, only negative stories, or those that can be painted that way.

The chloroquine is promising as a treatment. That so many insist it isn't, is a good sign of TDS damaging the public interest.

I almost wish he would stop using it, but it IS important to show which 'news' agencies are fucking ignorant.

Oh, and a Canadian pharmacuetical billionaire was murdered. His company produced cheap chloroquine. Probably just a coincidence.

Q posted a 'thank you Xi' for CQ. Probably meant to be read as sarcasm (or otherwise Barnum statement) but it IS funny how often hints from that quarter turn out to be better sources than a news agency citing 'sources close to the matter'.

We're not letting them in, DeSantis evidently has enough of his scrot left not to bend over for this. They're not U.S. flagged ships, let them go to Liberia or Bahamas or Panama or whatever cheap-ass flag of convenience they're flying. They want to change to U.S. flag, employ U.S. merchant marine, pay U.S. marine union wages, pay U.S. taxes, and abide by U.S. maritime regulations (and inspections!), then they have a right to use U.S. ports. Otherwise fuck the fuck off. I honestly don't care how many stupid ground apes die on them, it's an industry that needs to die for a lot of reasons. I hope each and every one on the cruise lines go bankrupt and they use those floating Petri dishes for artificial reefs.

If the Comfort (USNS) is not allowed to deliver babies, why do they have baby incubators?

Trump probably just trying to increase his pandemic...

Not at all. I just pointed out that more is needed to understand the situation, and that it may not be possible to link Trump directly to some of the failures.

But I'm done beating this horse for now.
The latest fad is a poverty social. Every woman must wear calico,
and every man his old clothes. In addition each is fined 25 cents if
he or she does not have a patch on his or her clothing. If these
parties become a regular thing, says an exchange, won't there be
a good chance for newspaper men to shine?

The Silver State. 1894.

It doesn't say anything like that. We still don't know whether it works or not. The clinical trials are still ongoing. There's dozens of possible medications in clinical trials currently. We will see in a few weeks which of these (if any) are able best to fight the Rona.

FDA has approved it for corona virus use. Trump never said it cured corona virus, he said it "showed promise". If it didn't the FDA would not have approved it. Hence, he was correct and the Democratic governors were wrong.

Whenever you heard 'Trump LIED!!!' in media, listen to his whole comment, and you will likely find he was lied about.

That seems to be falling apart with more people tuning in to hear him speak, but plenty still listen to quote-mined snippets which support their prejudice.

Why in the HELL is he setting up to attack Panama though? Are the cartels really that important right now?

I do think that this lockdown must make certain kinds of investigation/enforcment easier. Drug cartels may be criminal, but they are also business, and the essential parts will be more exposed with this lockdown.

So maybe this is just the best opportunity to move on them, but it's creepy as fuck to see them gathering forces around an issue like this. They also indicted a former leader of Venezuela...

Interesting times.
