Re: The Coronavirus Thread
It may well be. But the mutation rate of coronavirus is low, the chance that this will carry on past September and onto winter is low. It is likely this virus does not care too much about weather, so it will drag on through the summer at some level, and also reach places it has not been a major problem at yet.NineBerry wrote: ↑Tue Mar 24, 2020 12:42 pmAll experts I heard say that the RO of Covid-19 is not 2 but 4-5.Tero wrote: ↑Tue Mar 24, 2020 12:12 pmTrump tower.

The mention of bats was interesting.

Bad times for burglars because they know you won't be going out.

Although it may look like a forum, this site is actually a crowd-sourced science project modelling the slow but inexorable heat death of the universe.
Re: The Coronavirus Thread
Any lockdown measures will only show results at least a week after they started, probably later.
Re: The Coronavirus Thread
What are you doing (to address your virus chances) that you think others might not be?

Lets both pretend you are smarter than most.
With me so far?
Now, knowing that, what measures have you taken, in response to this virus-crisis, which you think others may not be taking.

I haven't left the house for 11 days except for quick grocery shopping.
However, the point of the lock-down is not individual risk but numbers. We need huge numbers of potential contacts between people being prevented to see an effect. And because of the several days incubation phase of the virus, results will only be measurable after at least a week.

same here, not much to do in town anyway, but being cooped up at home when I thirst for a nice pint of beer and good company is chafing, to say the least.

That sounds like sensible precautions.NineBerry wrote: ↑Tue Mar 24, 2020 2:36 pmI haven't left the house for 11 days except for quick grocery shopping.

For myself, I'm expecting that nothing I can do will be effective at preventing me getting it, so my focus is NOT spreading it. (mostly the same stuff, really)
I go out ONLY for my runs, and don't touch anything. Even the button to get the traffic lights to change. My runs are also very predictable...same route, pace and low-traffic times.
I've been encouraging others to get exercise and cardio. Being stronger is the best prep most of us can do (should have started earlier, of course)
My grocery trips are now focused on minimizing trips. I'll next take advantage of their order/pickup system, reducing contact further.
I've been mostly the type who keeps the curtains closed, but now I think sunlight has more utility (as a disinfectant) so may consider making my big window a little 'sterilization diorama', so packages can sit in there, in the sun, as further easy disinfectent when possible.
Thanks for sharing, nb. I wish you roaring success, and to those around you.

If I am far enough away, I would sit and have a drink with you via traded images and banters.
Sorry you are feeling lonesome, Svartalf. Do call someone you haven't in awhile. I'm emailing an old friend after typing this, to let him know I'm thinking of him. (a lot of old men get forgotten)

Re: The Coronavirus Thread
What I miss the most are really two things; 1. the sauna and 2. the terraces. The weather in turning to spring and the sap in the old bones is rising but at present it will be June before we can sit outside again.
Luckily my wife and I have our own bits of the apartment and we both have sufficient hobbies to keep ourselves occupied. All I can say is thank everything there are computers and the internet.
I just wonder how much all this (semi) lock down will affect society after the virus has buggered off? How long will it take for all the paranoia to disappear? The right wing just loves this and how many governments will release their people back into the old ways?
