The UK government are also making helicopter noises. Remember folks - everything you spend is someone else's income, m'kay?

Telegraph journalist says coronavirus ‘cull’ of elderly could benefit economy

A Telegraph journalist has suggested coronavirus could ‘prove mildly beneficial’ to the UK economy by killing off elderly Britons.

In his column last week, Jeremy Warner analyses the US making an emergency interest rate cut to protect the economy against coronavirus.

It went largely unnoticed when the Telegraph – whose average reader age is 61 – published it on March 3, but one of the assistant editor’s economic reflections has since sparked an outcry on social media.

Warner compared coronavirus with Spanish flu, and how the 1918 pandemic ‘disproportionately affected’ young people, unlike the Covid-19 strain which ‘primarily kills the elderly’.

He reasoned Spanish flu had a ‘lasting impact on supply’ because it killed off ‘primary bread-winners’, which he said is unlikely to happen with coronavirus.

Then he said: ‘Not to put too fine a point on it, from an entirely disinterested economic perspective, the COVID-19 might even prove mildly beneficial in the long term by disproportionately culling elderly dependents.’ ...

You know, that doesn't sound like an opinion from "an entirely disinterested economic perspective" to me.

It's hip to blame the old. Get with it man!
The latest fad is a poverty social. Every woman must wear calico,
and every man his old clothes. In addition each is fined 25 cents if
he or she does not have a patch on his or her clothing. If these
parties become a regular thing, says an exchange, won't there be
a good chance for newspaper men to shine?

What was that new drug they announced they are going to try on corona virus patients? Chloroquine or something that abbreviates to CQ
(spoilered because it's just a coincidence...)

Trumpy gonna give us free money. I'm big time down widdit.

The Dems need to up the ante. Fuck it. Lets just get the goddamn corruption out in the fucking open and include us little guys. I won't sell my birthright for a mess of pottage, but my vote is definitely on the block. Me and the Mrs are for sale, IOW. Votes ONLY. Anything else you don't have the money for and you'd fall in love. Now Trump and McConnell are talking about 1200 bucks each, so 2400 all in. What's your offer, Uncle Joe?

If CQ ends up being an effective treatment for this virus, will that mean this counts as a 'q-proof'?

Our city and county now has it first case. A man, 48, went to do fun stuff in Colorado and a week later is sick. They have run tests on 60 people so far, many fewer than Omaha. I am saying the man went to Colorado to do fun stuff, because another rural/small town man, only one for many counties around, went skiing and got it there.

I think the 'living on surfaces' thing changes public areas like restaurants or gym-jaccuzi's.

So the next big growth industry is designing, building and maintaining public areas better-suited to reducing contamination. Don't know what that looks like yet, but it's probably basic stuff, taken to extremes.

Yeah, there's a load of sin among the over 70s - they've been stocking it up for years. :tea:
