Start with yourselflaklak wrote: ↑Sun Mar 15, 2020 2:48 amSeriously, the best thing we can do is all go outside and lick each other's faces. Get this thing over with. The sooner we bury the 5 or 10 or 20% the sooner the rest can get on with trying to clean up the fucking mess. Dragging it out is only going to drag it the fuck out. We've weathered worse as a species, and maybe it's time for a little Maud Dib type jihad, shake the fucking cobwebs out and mix up the gene pool. It's all coming to a head anyway - economically, politically, climatically, ecologically - shit's about to hit the fucking fan from every direction. Did you think we were going to get out of this unscathed? Look at pollution in China, it's WAY down, it's an ill damn wind indeed. I've been saying we need a mass culling for some time now, and this looks like as good an opportunity as any I've seen so far.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread
Did you read the articles? One the main takeaways is that while the draconian Chinese approach would not work in democratic countries, the South Korean model could.
“South Korea’s experience suggests that a country can contain the spread of the virus in a relatively short period of time without relying on draconian, at-all-costs containment measures,” said Yanzhong Huang, a senior fellow for global health at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York.
“For countries like the US, the Korean experience offers an acceptable, likely more viable, alternative to addressing the outbreak. In addressing the Covid-19 outbreak, sound decision-making should not be about making a choice between maximised protection and minimal disruption.”
...
“While China has been able to control Covid-19, I don’t think its draconian methods are worth copying in liberal democracies,” said Lawrence Gostin, director of the O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law at Georgetown University Law Centre in Washington. “Most democracies value human rights and freedoms … [not] the degree of social control we’ve seen in China. South Korea offers a better model.”
...
“Korea, as a democratic country, values globalisation and a pluralistic society,” he said. “Therefore we believe we must transcend the limitations of the conventional approach to fighting infectious disease.”

Oh, FFS. Trump has declared today a national day of prayer. I'm sure that will help.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread
If someone would blame Trump for everything possible, while ignoring any disgusting behaviour by other politicians, it would make me more sure of the quality of their opinion.
Bonus points if they can call him mentally compromised, while hoping Biden gets to lead the opposing party.
This would make my social distance protocols a lot more enjoyable. Everyone here enjoys reading the 'TRUMP IS THE DEVIL' choir.
In other news, some medic insta-thot called '1 Godless Woman' has recommended all the usual things, plus her personal endorsement of supplementing with vitamin 'd'. Apparently takes a while to see the benefits, so no good for this particular crisis...

Re: The Coronavirus Thread
I was struck by how different they seem to be to us Seabass.
Americans downplayed the virus. You claimed Trump did, but ignored my mention of CNN' s flawed reporting doing the same. It's an American thing, not a Trump thing.
You also ignored knowing about the virus early, knowing about its seriousness, and pretty much everything really.
Suppose South Korea is out of the woods, there aren't any complicating factors that make comparing our respective abilities unrealistic, you're still just pointing to the best and crying your country isn't it.
That's so American it hurts!
There's a lot we don't know yet.

The latest fad is a poverty social. Every woman must wear calico,
and every man his old clothes. In addition each is fined 25 cents if
he or she does not have a patch on his or her clothing. If these
parties become a regular thing, says an exchange, won't there be
a good chance for newspaper men to shine?

Pretty much nobody knew what they had for sure. Last one in Omaha had sore throat and fatigue, no fever. She only got tested, first for flu, because she had scheduled surgery.
Re: The Coronavirus Thread
It seems to be infecting a lot more prominent figures than have other diseases of this nature.
Like it's running through government and celebrities. Is that weird? That seems weird.

They're being made immune to the culling laklak talked about. If you don't have it you've lost the lottery.

It's not an American thing. It's a Trumpworld/Fox News/Republican/conservative thing.Sean Hayden wrote: ↑Sun Mar 15, 2020 6:33 pmI was struck by how different they seem to be to us Seabass.

Regarding CNN, most of what I've seen from them has been fact-checking the shit out of Trump's lies. Now, CNN does have a lot of dumb Trumpist pundits on so I'd not be surprised if CNN's Trumpists were downplaying it. But even if it was Tapper or Cooper or whoever, it would be ridiculous equate a few wrong statements from CNN to the two months of disinformation blasting from Trump and pro-Trump media.
Say what? I've been saying from the beginning that we've known about this for months and despite this, the Trump administration has done nothing to prepare for it other than gaslight, lie, downplay, and call it a "Democrat hoax".Sean Hayden wrote: ↑Sun Mar 15, 2020 6:33 pmYou also ignored knowing about the virus early, knowing about its seriousness, and pretty much everything really.
I'm pointing out the incompetence and idiocy of the Trump administration. Some people like to discuss current events. So what?Sean Hayden wrote: ↑Sun Mar 15, 2020 6:33 pmSuppose South Korea is out of the woods, there aren't any complicating factors that make comparing our respective abilities unrealistic, you're still just pointing to the best and crying your country isn't it.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread
It is an American thing, and it wasn't some Fox news type on CNN, it was one of their educational bits for school kids. It's not just Trump and his fanbase. Besides, Trump and conservatives are Americans! Just what the absolute heck man?
I don't see it that way. But I don't think you've seen the relevance of anything I've said so far. We'll just have to agree to disagree.I'm pointing out the incompetence and idiocy of the Trump administration. Some people like to discuss current events. So what?

Monica MaggioniI know, of course, that what is happening here could happen next in Rome, or a week later in France or in Germany. The United States might be a week or two behind that. It looks as if the same shifts in perception, the same shifts in political discourse, are taking place everywhere, delayed or accelerated only by a country’s ability to face the facts.
