Re: Classical Music.
You made me look Arvo Pärt up.
To see if he was dead yet.
No such luck.

Re: Classical Music.
I enjoy the quiet reticence of Pärt's later output, particular the use of tintinnabulation that lends much of his music a kind of perpetually falling, unwinding, melancholies atmosphere.
This is evident in works like Stabat Mater, Tabula Rosa, and Salve Regina - which also bear the faint impression of Bach's liturgical work imo.

Re: Classical Music.
Will Arvo be composing from the dead? Or just decomposing?

Re: Classical Music.
It's this schmaltzy sentimentalism he seems to trowel on everything with unrelenting, religious fervour that puts me off his oeuvre. I did manage to listen to Spiegel im Spiegel in its entirety once. Had to have a shower to get the drippings off me.
Only one 20th century composer comes readily to my mind, whose output I dislike more than Pärt's, but I will not mention his name in case you are tempted to torment me with Youtube links of Yiannis Chryssomallis doing his stuff.

Re: Classical Music.
In the late 80s I spent a bleary evening in the pub, culminating in a trip to the curry house, with what is now a long-running ensemble called His Majestys Sagbutts and Cornetts (after a piece by Matthew Locke (Wiki)). I'd forgotten all about it until I heard that!
Their live performances are not well represented on YouTube, though there's a few albums available there. Anyway, this should gird your loins.

Re: Classical Music.
These are not any different from Mozart, but Reicha wrote more of them than nearly anyone
