Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib is talking smack again.
Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) revealed in a new interview that House Democrats have discussed jailing allies of the president who do not comply with congressional subpoenas, an escalation of the House's efforts to force White House compliance with an impeachment inquiry.

Tlaib told Deadline Detroit that such an action, known as inherent contempt, would be "uncharted territory" for Congress but added that "serious conversations" about taking the step have occurred within the Democratic caucus.

"There have been actual serious conversations about what the logistics would look like ... if we did have to force someone through a court order to come before the Congressional committee," she said. "This is pretty uncharted territory for many of us and even for Congress.”

Tlaib's comments echoed those of Rep. John Garamendi (D-Calif.), who called for the House to do as much in a CNN interview earlier this week.

"I think it's time to call in the sergeant-at-arms and march them off to our little jail, which we do happen to have," Garamendi said on Wednesday.

"Let them sit there and cool off for a while," he added.

I wonder how far one can extend the 'it's not illegal to ...' line of argumentation. Below is a Washington Post link. Limited number of free articles before you hit a paywall.

'Trump’s ex-Russia adviser told impeachment investigators of Giuliani’s efforts in Ukraine'
[Fiona] Hill [former White House Russia hand] testified Monday that Bolton was furious over Giuliani’s politically motivated activities in Ukraine, two officials familiar with her testimony said. She recounted how Bolton likened the former New York mayor to a “hand grenade who’s going to blow everybody up,” one of these people said, after Bolton learned about Giuliani’s Ukraine campaign.

Bolton and Sondland met in early July with then-special envoy for Ukraine Kurt Volker, Hill and Energy Secretary Rick Perry. During the meeting, Sondland’s agenda for Ukraine began to become clear, when he blurted out to the other officials present that there were “investigations that were dropped that need to be started up again,” according to a U.S. official familiar with the matter. The officials understood him to be referring to Burisma, the energy company, and Biden — something that made Bolton go “ballistic” after the meeting, the official said.

Hill told lawmakers that after the meeting, Bolton instructed her to go raise their concerns about the shadow Ukraine operations with White House lawyers. Bolton said he did not want to be part of any “drug deal” that was being cooked up on Ukraine, one person familiar with Hill’s testimony said.

Hill met with NSC lawyer John Eisenberg to express her concerns about Giuliani’s activities and how they were being carried out by Sondland and Volker, people familiar with the matter said.

Bolton declined to comment. Attempts to reach Hill were unsuccessful.

“Rudy Giuliani has clearly been a leading force for the administration in defining a shadow foreign policy in Ukraine,” Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) told reporters after emerging from Hill’s testimony, though he declined to say whether Hill testified to that effect. “There was an official foreign policy, which was attempting to counter corruption in Ukraine, and then there was Rudy Giuliani and the gang that couldn’t shoot straight who worked for him, who were involved precisely [in] connecting with corruption in Ukraine and promoting corruption in Ukraine.”

Giuliani said Monday night: “I don’t know Fiona and can’t figure out what she is talking about,” adding that his contact with Ukrainian officials was set up with the State Department.

“I reported everything back to them,” he said. “Nothing shadowy about it.”

Giuliani also said he believed Hill was out of the loop compared to Sondland and others involved with Ukraine. “She just didn’t know,” he said. He added that he had never talked to her about Ukraine policy.

Hill, who left the NSC voluntarily this summer, worked closely on Ukraine matters with two diplomats who have become central to the impeachment inquiry. One, Marie Yovanovitch, the former U.S. ambassador to Ukraine, testified last week about her understanding of Giuliani’s efforts to remove her from her post. Giuliani and some of his allies in Ukraine saw Yovanovitch, a career diplomat, as a threat to their financial and political interests, she told lawmakers last week.

If the Republicans want to help the president dodge impeachment then they'll be setting the tone for presidencies to come. If the Dems get away with impeaching Trump on flimsy grounds then they'll be setting the tone of House for years to come. The failure of the system to deal with the charges against Trump transparently and the inclination to ultimately make the Supreme Court the venue for settling these scores is an indictment against a political and democratic system which has lost its way and its authority and that no longer seeks to serve the interests of the citizens of the republic. There's only one thing for it...

More on the Fiona Hill testimony. That vile flying monkey Mick Mulvaney was up to his neck, helping Trump, Giuliani & Co. to extort political help from Ukraine.

'Testimony of Ex-Trump Aide Exposes Mulvaney Role in Coordinating Giuliani's "Rogue Operation" in Ukraine'
Hill's testimony for the first time directed serious attention to the key role Mulvaney played in Trump's months-long attempt to pressure Ukraine to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden, an effort that led House Democrats to launch an impeachment inquiry last month.

During her deposition, according to the Wall Street Journal, Hill "detailed a July 10 meeting she attended with senior Ukrainian officials, then-national security adviser John Bolton, and other U.S. officials in which the U.S. ambassador to the European Union, Gordon Sondland, raised the issue of the investigations" into Biden.

"Both Ms. Hill and Mr. Bolton left the meeting with concerns about what had transpired, and Ms. Hill said Mr. Bolton instructed her to talk to [National Security Council] lawyer John Eisenberg," the Journal reported. "Mr. Sondland also appeared to be coordinating his efforts with acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney."

Mulvaney's role in Trump's push for a Biden probe in Ukraine was first revealed last month, when reports emerged that the U.S. president ordered Mulvaney—who also runs the Office of Management and Budget—to put a hold on around $400 million in military aid to Ukraine.

But..... What if Ukraine delivers ? :{D

Hunter back in 2016 was sloppy enough to leave a coke pipe in a rental car. Odds I think are fair that Ukraine can deliver evidence or proof of criminal activity. And if Hunter is charged criminally... impeachment vanishes, VP Biden's campaign sinks, and then Trump gets to open an obstruction of justice investigation over 'interference' with his Ukrainian Hunter investigation.
A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.

There is nothing to uncover on Biden Jr. He was on the Burisma and got paid, as were all board members. They don't "work" they just show at board meetings a few times axyer.

Trump tries to be the strongman, like the dictators he admires
Trump calls officials that work in the agencies of the executive branch the “deep state”, implying that they are unelected bureaucrats attempting to thwart the will of the people (represented, of course, by Trump). But these officials are public servants and patriots. And for those who think they all answer to the president, remember that these officials work for the American people and swear an oath to uphold the constitution – not to follow the president. Furthermore, Congress authorized and annually appropriates money for their agencies, endowing all officials with direct support from America’s congressional representatives.

This battle between Trump and America’s democratic institutions is playing out in other areas as well. Trump has attempted to hide his personal finances from the public and benefit from private business while in office, both of which have been challenged in the courts. The press is doing yeoman’s work in exposing Trump’s wrongdoing even as Trump continues to attack them.
Civil society activists are on the streets every day advocating for the rights of Americans while Trump tries to restrict the rights of people to vote.

The longer an autocrat stays in power, the more the institutions are endangered as the leader attempts to reshape institutions to further his goals. In Hungary, Orbán and his allies have eroded the country’s formerly democratic institutions by altering the makeup of the courts and changing the constitution, among many other moves. In Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has undermined his country’s institutions, jailing his opponents, muzzling the press, stacking the judiciary, and changing the constitution to eliminate any checks on his power.
