I absolutely agree with this bit. There's a couple of things which prejudice the system in favour of the 2-party model. The first is a FPTP electoral system that reduces all political argument to a binary, and the second is the is the influence of neo-liberal economic power on political parties - and particularly in favour of the party which is prepared to facilitate neo-liberal economic ideals for cash. In the UK the trick is convincing any party that gains power by FPTP in a 2-party context (but in practice that means convincing the party which isn't the Tories) to give up the future possibility of being in sole control under a proportional electoral system which would put them in coalition with 'the enemy'..Scot Dutchy wrote: ↑Wed Jul 10, 2019 6:13 am...

Yes, we submit our tame Dutchman a bit of good-natured ribaldry but their approach to knotty political issues is refrached through a proportional system which explicitly represents the big lump in the middle of the bell curve. I mean, they're still rampant capitalists, but they have managed to knock a few of the sharper edges off.

Fuck it, I got a house, car, boat, wife, beer, bit of coin, Viagra, what's to bitch about? I live in a virtually crime free area, my electricity runs 24/7 (takes a day or two off for hurricanes), got the streaming TV and Pandora, can afford to eat steak, the water's potable, and the pool is heated in the winter and chilled in the summer. What, me worry? I'm one fuck of a lot better off than my Irish forebears, no more grubbing for moldy potatoes and tugging my forelock to some English Lord Twatington-Smythe.
