"... thereby reducing the cost to those people who lead good lives, they’re healthy, they’ve done the things to keep their bodies healthy,” explained Brooks."

Said Peter...what you're requesting just isn't my bag
Said Daemon, who's sorry too, but y'see we didn't have no choice
And our hands they are many and we'd be of one voice
We've come all the way from Wigan to get up and state
Our case for survival before it's too late

Turn stone to bread right away...

And if the Lord should chose to strike him down with a painful and debilitating affliction he'll only have himself to blame.

Thanks Brian, it's funny how anybody can get a debilitating illness.

Re: The US Healthcare Mass Debate
It probably unreasonable to expect anything else from the superstitious. The idea that the bad things that happen to us are a punishment for wrong doing or sin has a long and established history. Whether it's Freddy Phelps saying that 9/11 was a punishment for sodomy or some Republican evangelical equating illness with moral turpitude, it all basically comes from the same place.

"Democrats and Republicans are also working on a modest package of bills intended to lower health care costs."
Yeah right.
“Every plan Republicans have put forward has failed to maintain the protections offered under the current law,” he said. “It's pretty simple: If you care about maintaining protections for people with preexisting conditions, you don’t demand they be taken away.”

Re: The US Healthcare Mass Debate
Here's an idea Democrats. State fund all US healthcare, free at the point of delivery for everybody, and with the money that you'll save give a tax break to low income families.Tero wrote: ↑Mon Jul 15, 2019 12:16 am"Democrats and Republicans are also working on a modest package of bills intended to lower health care costs."

Re: The US Healthcare Mass Debate
If people want choice then let them take out private insurance - but they carry the full costs of it and don't get to offset it against tax. Let the rich pay extra for extra physio or convenience in pastel coloured private rooms where the lawns are tidy and the gardener calls you Sir or Madam if they want - let them have private elective surgery, but they have to cover the cost including the intensive care bed when things go South.

Re: The US Healthcare Mass Debate
I'm serious though - the economic argument is a no-brainer. You'd spend less as a nation and the savings could be passed as tax cuts for the working poor. That's the way to get people talking about how it could be something worth trying.

This is America. Make it tax cuts for the rich, and it might have a chance...Brian Peacock wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2019 11:46 pmI'm serious though - the economic argument is a no-brainer.
