No country that was every ‘great’ was some sort of peaceful paradise. American reluctance to get involved abroad has swung wildly at other times in some sort of attempt at hegemony. Such is the fate of the biggest guy in the room.
America is probably, in social, cultural, military and economic terms - not to mention diversity - the greatest country there has ever been, despite its many failings.
It ain’t never going to be the Netherlands.

I don't know what "America" is and I live here. If you've never been here here you have no idea of the diversity, it's more like 50 small countries (many of which are the size of European nations) stuck together in a rather bizzare and often disfunctional federation. The biggest mistake people make is to look at us as a single, homogeneous nation. The history, culture, demographics, politics, food, et. al. of someplace like the Florida Panhandle is drastically different than that of, say, Southern California or New York.
