Re: The Thread of Democrats
I believe in funding art, but when the government tries to do it, we end up paying our taxes into fucking Marvel movies...it's fucking ludicrous.
Shit, Piss, Cock, Cunt, Motherfucker, Cocksucker and Tits.

The 'Walsh Question' 'What Is A Woman?' I'll put an answer here when someone posts one that is clear and comprehensible, by apostates to the Faith.
Update: I've been offered one!
Strong ideas don't require censorship to survive. Weak ideas cannot survive without it.

If you think some of the government is bad, then you're no different than the typical right of center conservative. You just like different parts of it.
Someone thinks some of the government is bad
Conservatives think some of the government is bad
Therefore anyone who thinks that anything is wrong with government is a right-wing nutjob.

The Thread of Democrats
You wouldn’t know a good investment if it hit you in the face.Cunt wrote:I believe in funding art, but when the government tries to do it, we end up paying our taxes into fucking Marvel movies...it's fucking ludicrous.
Creative returns on investment: Funding the arts grows the bottom line | The Star
John Brotman, executive director of the Ontario Arts Council, also points to the $300 million that Ontario artists gave back through income tax (based on the 2006 census). The organizations the council funds leverage $512 million in direct expenditures from the $43 million they receive in grants every year.
Re: The Thread of Democrats
I guy who's job depends on art funding supports art funding. I'm so shocked I won't bother reading the article you found.
Big ticket movies get government funding. I bet they would find many movie producers who say it's also a good investment.

I’m happy for you to continue your ignorance so you can continue parading it around here. It’s entertaining and instructive.Cunt wrote:I guy who's job depends on art funding supports art funding. I'm so shocked I won't bother reading the article you found.

Keep begging funding for big-budget movies, from government. Meanwhile, important infrastructure can wait.BarnettNewman wrote: ↑Sat Jan 19, 2019 7:02 pmI’m happy for you to continue your ignorance so you can continue parading it around here. California - land of great movie studios and terrible infrastructure. Movie-moguls mansions and skyrocketing homelessness.
Sounds sensible.

Yes investment in TV and film production is terrible for the economy.

As usual you haven’t a clue what you’re talking about.2016 was a record year for flm and television production in Ontario. The sector accounted for more than 35,500 jobs—representing an increase of 3,200 jobs over 2015 and growth of more than 60% since 2003. Film and television production contributed $1.7 billion
to the provincial economy in 2016, marking the sixth consecutive year the industry
has surpassed the $1 billion mark. And domestic production is on par with our foreign shoots—both have recorded growth fueled by signifcant provincial investments and a highly skilled workforce.
Re: The Thread of Democrats
I know some people who 'work' in the film industry. Usually after years being exploited as 'volunteers'.
It's worth burning a lot of diesel for this - if you like watching films.
Otherwise, it kind of looks like just another potlach.

Re: The Thread of Democrats
If anyone can find a constitutional justification for using my tax dollars to fund "art" of any description then I'll gladly pony up the cash. Otherwise put down your crayons, get a real fucking job, and pay for your own shit.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.
Re: The Thread of Democrats
Here is one. Freedom of speech.
If someone is having their speech fucked with, law enfoncement will have to be sent to correct it. That's going to have a cost.
I mean, what happens instead, is that every film starts with a notice that a federal agency will fuck you up if you don't comply, but that's probably not relevant.

Re: The Thread of Democrats
Nah, I don't see the relevance. FoS only protects political speech, and only from government interference. It doesn't imply an artist deserves taxpayer support because people won't pay for his creative output. There's no government censorship of the arts, you can put as many crucifixes in beakers of urine you choose, but if nobody wants to pay for it them maybe you should be a plumber, at least that way you can make money off other people's piss and shit.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.
Re: The Thread of Democrats
No, but the enforcement (protection for that right) is a cost to government.
You don't have to like it, but it is a real cost to uphold the constitution.
Would you, for instance, let people pull fire alarms repeatedly, to prevent a speaker from being heard? Or have enforcement do something about it?
