And as I mentioned earlier to Hermit I've paid $550 in bills from my blogging earnings on the Steem blockchain. That required zero real money investment for that $550. But it's a scam. Must be.

Where did the money come from? Somebody was scammed.

It came from people investing in the coin. No different than where the money came from in a million other investments on the planet. You seem to be totally unaware of how the world works.

In either case a few people make a lots of money by selling goods that are worth very little or nothing, to lots of other people who lose their money.

Technically, a scam implies that the scheme was fraudulent from the start... I don't suppose tulip growers intended to bilk buyers of their money, they delivered their bulbs at greatly inflated prices, but they delivered... when the demand for bulbs collapsed from nobody wanting to pay the prices being too high, it's the casual investors who got ruined, those who had proper tulip plantations went on in the flower business, less profitable, but extant nonetheless.

By comparison, the SouthSeas 'bubble' seems to have been a scam since supporters of the scheme purported to finance a trade that could not take place, since it was in Spain controlled South America, while Spain and England were at war and no trade between them took place.

It is a scam just like the tulip bubble. Somebody starts selling nothing for real money. The hype then takes over and the demand is created. Just as in the tulip bubble but unlike the tulip bubble the numbers involve world wide has grown out of all proportion allowing those who originally sold them make a killing by selling them for real money as others move in expecting to make the same killing which of course they wont.
