Anything is possible, I'd guess bribery though... you have to be crazy to use something as pollution generating as coal in our times... Thorium power plants ought to be the wave of the future.

What will replace it is not in discussion but the fact the Australian government wont even consider taking any action is amazing.

Re: Australian government backs coal in defiance of IPCC climate warning
Only way to keep the coal in the ground is to fuck up coal rich countries with some military intervention. I call it the Kill Big Coal Doctrine. A blue print for a limited world war. Nothing is without risk that can save a planet.

Re: Australian government backs coal in defiance of IPCC climate warning
No military intervention will destroy the billions of tons of coal that does not also destroy the planet as we know it. They are safely tucked away under ground. No matter what you do to coal rich countries themselves, the owners of the mines will continue to have their shares happily traded in London, New York, Frankfurt and Tokyo while they continue to extract the black stuff from what used to be Australia and sell overseas. It's the buyers you need to threaten, but I doubt you'll find the hardware to do that with. Unfortunately they are also the ones who own the means of destruction.
Your post displays as much naïveté and ignorance as the most moronic of morons could ever manage to produce.

As ever idiocy on offer from Crumple.
Oz has more sun than you can shake a stick at. It is astonishing that political games like this can put the world at risk.
If this sort of approach is common, and I fear it will be, then there is no hope.

Profit is the game. Just ship abroad who cares, we have the profits.

Combination of profit and climate science deniers. Basically, it's because they are conservatives.

Indeed. And most of the profits go to the shareholders of the coal mining companies, few of which live in the countries where coal is actually mined. If you want to stop coal mining, stop the consumers of coal from consuming the stuff.Scot Dutchy wrote: ↑Tue Oct 09, 2018 10:39 amProfit is the game. Just ship abroad who cares, we have the profits.

It's not just China.
What's more, we live in a global economy. How much, do you think, will we pay for mobile phones, running shoes, clothing and even cars among other products, if we shut off the supply of coal before alternative sources of energy are put in place? I think the governments of western nations are very much aware of the implications of their citizens being suddenly faced with the sudden and massive increase in price of a t-shirt or whatever else they need or desire to buy.

Well, I for one don't want to pay more for my needs, I'm too poor to afford it.

What about a high mortality plague then? Would a 90% killer bug stop coal?

Or, you could make finding alternative energy sources a priority, spend like your life depended on it and see what happens. Think of it like war. We are at war with the clock.
