How's Obama Doing?

I just thought it would be interesting to have a thread where we discuss how Obama's been doing as president, whether by our American members, or the ones from the rest of the world.

Personally, I think that he's doing a good job under the circumstances. The US was in bad shape because of the financial crisis, and stretched thin militarily and diplomatically because of the two ongoing warzones in the middle east and south Asia. His handling of the financial crisis, while expensive, seems to be good overall. There are no easy ways out of this, and he knows so, but is determined to push ahead with clearheadedness and resolve. He's also committed himself to reforming health care, which is especially laudable, as the US health care system is perverse and an embarassment to the US, and far more archaic than any other modern country, as they all have some form of universal health care there. But a lot of stupid loony inbreeds have been calling him a socialist for it, just because he wants to catch up with the modern world. This shows how utterly insane the right-wing in the US is. And the bizarre smears that are popping upo show that a lot of these people are actually insane. How do they function in society if they're so utterly fucking nuts? I'd like to know.

While listening to him does not give you this impression that it has anything to do with him, the level of U.S. protectionism has risen even since the Bush years (unless it's changed in the past month as I've not been following this). For Canada, it ain't purdy... NAFTA? WTF is NAFTA?

I agree. He has a mountain of problems to overcome and he is doing fairly well.

I am somewhat disappointed in his back pedaling on the subject of Guantanamo and how he is handling that. He only has about half a year to go before the one year limit is up for his prediction of when Guantanamo would be completely closed. We shall wait and see.

I have no idea WHAT he can do about our embarrassing health care system, but it's an overwhelming problem that I too cannot see changing overnight, the challenges are just too huge. The fact that he's willing to try, is enough for me at this point.

He got a liberal judge on the Supreme Court, that's a good thing.

It's pretty early to judge. I think he deserves a chance. Already books have been written by right wing pundits decrying Obama's supposed dismal failure in the six months he has been in office. On the other hand, George Idiot Bush gets the benefit of the doubt and a pass that "time and history will tell" what kind of job he did, as if it has never been completely obvious.
