Said Peter...what you're requesting just isn't my bag
Said Daemon, who's sorry too, but y'see we didn't have no choice
And our hands they are many and we'd be of one voice
We've come all the way from Wigan to get up and state
Our case for survival before it's too late

Re: Global Climate Change Science News
Interesting and dare I say hopeful summary of energy developments from: https://about.bnef.com/new-energy-outlook/
Including an estmate of the incresed requirment from electric cars as per Alan B's post at: http://www.rationalia.com/forum/viewtop ... =8&t=53930
Highlights
1
"50 by 50"
Cheap renewable energy and batteries fundamentally reshape the electricity system. Batteries boom means that half of the world’s electricity by 2050 will be generated from wind and solar.
2
PV, wind and batteries trifecta.
The cost of an average PV plant falls 71% by 2050. Wind energy is getting cheaper too, and we expect it to drop 58% by 2050. PV and wind are already cheaper than building new large-scale coal and gas plants. Batteries are also dropping dramatically in cost. Cheap batteries enable wind and solar to run when the wind isn’t blowing and the sun isn’t shining.
3
Coal is the biggest loser in this outlook.
Coal will shrink to just 11% of global electricity generation by 2050, from 38% currently.
4
Gas consumption for power generation increases only modestly out to 2050
despite growing capacity, as more and more gas-fired facilities are either dedicated peakers or run at lower capacity factors helping to balance variable renewables, rather than run flat-out around-the-clock. Gas use declines dramatically in Europe, grows in China and picks up materially in India beyond 2040.
5
Electric vehicles add around 3,461TWh of new electricity demand globally by 2050, equal to 9% of total demand.
Time-of-use tariffs and dynamic charging further support renewables integration: they allow vehicle owners to choose to charge during high-supply, low-cost periods, and so help to shift demand to periods when cheap renewables are running.

Finally things are slowly changing:
Manchester makes a Beeline for new Dutch-style cycling network
Manchester makes a Beeline for new Dutch-style cycling network
These are amazing figures:£500m is being spent to fund cycling networks in Greater Manchester
Lazy sods.Around 250 million car journeys of less than 1km (0.6 miles) are made per year in Greater Manchester; the equivalent of a 15-minute walk or a five-minute bike ride. A large proportion of those trips are school runs. In the Netherlands, 50% of children bike to school every day. In Greater Manchester the proportion is less than 2%. A study earlier this month found that dangerous levels of air pollution costs Greater Manchester £1bn every year.

Well cant have the 'precious moments' being damaged. You dont know who the might meet? Another helicopter mum with its spoilt brat.
Being brought to school by a parent is for many kids such an embarrassment they would never live it down.

Re: Global Climate Change Science News
It’s a...source...I often quote, but, it’s not incorrect!
GENEVA—Saying the time to act has come and gone, a group of researchers from the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change warned Tuesday that any hope for the future of humanity now hinges on the possibility that scientists like themselves are simply making all of this up. “After reviewing our climate models and projections of worldwide CO2 emissions, we have come to the conclusion that the only scenario in which the human race survives is if our thousands upon thousands of meticulous empirical studies on climate change turn out to be something we’ve been lying about all along,” said climate scientist Philip Vanderwall, who stated that unless the entire scientific community has spent the past 50 years falsifying reams of data as part of a coordinated disinformation campaign to sabotage the global economy, the world’s low-lying coastal regions are as good as done for. “The evidence indicates our planet still might stand a chance of averting a complete climate catastrophe as long as my colleagues and I belong to a cabal of charlatans who are secretly paid huge sums of money to trick everyone into believing excess greenhouse gases will precipitate record-breaking natural disasters and worldwide famine. Otherwise, we’re all doomed.” On a personal note, Vanderwall added that he hopes that one day, his grandchildren will discover that he was involved in a massive, nefarious conspiracy spanning every country on the face of the earth, because it is the only thing that can possibly save them.

Looks exactly like the sort of stuff internet jokers with too much time on their hands would fake, but Snopes says It's true.
