Finally caught up with all the goodies here. In the d'Weezel clip it looks like he's playing his Dad's old SG - what a responsibility, and as we know, with great power comes great responsibility, as Shakespeare said! The long Swedish gig is fabulous. The way the band slip between loose jazzy-jams and incredibly tight compositions is a sight to behold. Zappa had few good things to say about jazz as a commercial proposition, but he always peppered his bands with jazzers and always applied a jazz sensibility to his live work. He was an enigma, wrapped inside a mystery, wrapped inside a conundrum, wrapped inside a musical puzzle. But once you've solved the Zappa puzzle the rest doesn't seem to matter.

Yeah I hate that. Enigmas. The Zappas Beefhearts Peter Gabriels and Björks. I just want the art. I don’t want to deal with enigmas and flaws. Some even despicable violent people. Some unlisted greats.

I don't think he was much of a mystery. His misogyny, his crude politics and even his 'crude' music tell us a lot about the sort of person he was.

I personally believe he was a musical genius and he had music flowing through him almost all the time. I have read that on tour and pretty much anywhere he went he was always writing music almost - perhaps literally - obsessively.

I suspect in other times we would think of him as inspired by something transcendental. Whatever it was he churned the stuff out ferociously and at times almost as if he was not in control of whatever it was that was driving it..

The music was his thing and I listen to that often. I find as time goes on I skip a lot of the stuff with lyrics in. I'm not saying he didn't have something to say - he did. Bit most of it was second hand and reactionary. Interesting that he concentrated more on instrumental stuff in his later life.

His music was at times almost from another dimension but heroes too have feet of clay.

Although poor quality audience recordings have circulated among fans for many years, presented here for the first time ever is a direct recording of Frank Zappa's early show on October 13, 1978 at The Capitol Theatre in Passaic, NJ. This night is notable not only for containing two of the most memorable performances of the 1978 World Tour, but this concert was also bass player Patrick O'hearn's debut gig with Zappa.
