Re: Hard Brexit or Hard Brexit
If you apply that rule to democracy generally them it is never the fault of the majority if they vote in a terrible government of one sort or another.
Perhaps we should go all elitist and limit voting only to those with an IQ average or above or those with at least an A level education.
As Churchill once said 'The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter'.

Which is why PR is a far better form. Seldom if ever does one party receive enough votes to form a government on its own. It requires compromises which extreme parties are not willing to make so they are isolated. Just look at the Netherlands and Germany where both have a sizeable right wing members of the main house but because there enough others willing to compromise they are isolated. Wilders has nothing to say here and his party is not large enough to carry any influence which is why no one bothers about them. These parties never last long as people realise voting for them is a waste of time.

The Nazis came into power as part of a coalition government. It doesn't automatically make for better government in my opinion and it sometimes means hard decisions are even harder to make and get through.
I'm not a huge fan of the first past the post system we have here but it too means very often that people won't vote for a party that hasn't a chance of getting power. One reason why Ukip is a spent force now. And it is also why the parties develop and add policies rather than small splinter parties forming. Both the main parties here for example have taken on Green Party policies (albeit watered down) and the fear of immigration (however manufactured) was addressed in the last election by the main parties too.

Re: Hard Brexit or Hard Brexit
That was a relatively negative and bad time in most countries. It may not make for the optimal government but it does offer stability. You do not get the present British situation where a minority party bribes another minority party into making a deal. When making a coalition is must be hard and fast in an agreement set in stone. Anything else as happened in the past in Britain where coalitions never work will fail. The coalition agreement must be drawn up and presented to parliament and voted on. The British have no patience.
The greatest problem in FPTP is the massive swings that occur which are disastrous for the country. With PR there are no extremes and everything stays more or less around the middle.

Attribution debunked in Langworth's Churchill by Himself. First known appearance is in a 1992 usenet post.Rum wrote:As Churchill once said 'The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter'.

Churchill is the most overrated politician ever. He did far more harm than he did good.

Well, yes, of course. After all, he was a Tory.Scot Dutchy wrote:Churchill is the most overrated politician ever. He did far more harm than he did good.
That said, he had a way with words and a quick wit few politicians could match.

Oh he had that alright. But his record was pretty terrible. What he did during the General Strike and in Ireland was beyond the pale and these days he would have ended in an international tribunal.

Nice throwaway remark there. You are good at those, especially when they involve the British.Scot Dutchy wrote:Churchill is the most overrated politician ever. He did far more harm than he did good.
Churchill's flaws are well recognised, documented and a matter of historical record. He was not ever going to be a decent peacetime leader. He did inspire and motivate the nation during a dangerous time though and deserves recognition for that.

Don't be too hard on Mr Dutchy. One doesn't encounter many Dutch exceptionalists, obviously.Rum wrote:Nice throwaway remark there. Apparently, Norn Ireland will stay in the single market and the customs union, so looks like we are getting ad-hoc, make it up as you go along BREXIT.

Well if you dont have a plan ad hoc is a suitable alternative.
