Lip service on the opioid drug problem in the US, meanwhile the Trump administration relies on political hacks in the place of people who might actually know how to approach it.

'Kellyanne Conway’s "opioid cabinet" sidelines drug czar’s experts'
President Donald Trump’s war on opioids is beginning to look more like a war on his drug policy office.

White House counselor Kellyanne Conway has taken control of the opioids agenda, quietly freezing out drug policy professionals and relying instead on political staff to address a lethal crisis claiming about 175 lives a day. The main response so far has been to call for a border wall and to promise a "just say no” campaign.

Trump is expected to propose massive cuts this month to the “drug czar” office, just as he attempted in last year’s budget before backing off. He hasn’t named a permanent director for the office, and the chief of staff was sacked in December. For months, the office’s top political appointee was a 24-year-old Trump campaign staffer with no relevant qualifications. Its senior leadership consists of a skeleton crew of three political appointees, down from nine a year ago.

"It’s fair to say the ONDCP has pretty much been systematically excluded from key decisions about opioids and the strategy moving forward,” said a former Trump administration staffer, using shorthand for the Office of National Drug Control Policy, which has steered federal drug policy since the Reagan years.

The office’s acting director, Rich Baum, who had served in the office for decades before Trump tapped him as the temporary leader, has not been invited to Conway’s opioid cabinet meetings, according to his close associates. His schedule, obtained under a Freedom of Information Act request, included no mention of the meetings.

Of course you would defend that. Sick bastard.

Defending? That's what it looks like. Or, do you think he's dead serious when he says that? Why don't you add some nuance to your thought processes? It's all black and white to you, isn't it? He's evil, therefore everything he does, all the time, must be characterized in the worst light possible.

The thing that was interesting in the class was every time the professor said ‘Al Qaeda’ his shoulders went up, But you know, it is that you don’t say ‘America’ with an intensity, you don’t say ‘England’ with the intensity. You don’t say ‘the army’ with the intensity,” she continued. “... But you say these names [Al Qaeda] because you want that word to carry weight. You want it to be something.” - Ilhan Omar

Par for the course--narcissistic authoritarianism is just the quotidian tone that has been established by Dear Leader.

'Trump accuses Dems of "treasonous" behavior'
President Trump on Monday accused Democrats of "treasonous" behavior during his State of the Union address, escalating partisan tensions during a crucial stretch for Congress.

Trump took aim at Democratic lawmakers who refused to applaud during his speech last week when he mentioned his achievements during his first year in office, a reaction he called “un-American.”

"Can we call that treason? Why not?" the president said during a speech in Ohio. "They certainly didn't seem to love our country very much."

Trump signaled that Democrats’ refusal to cheer “very positive news” in his speech, such as low unemployment rates for Hispanics and African-Americans, will make it difficult for him to work with them on government spending and immigration.
I cannot express in words how much I hate this man.

It's irresponsible for him to "kid around" because of who his supporters are and how incapable of critical thought they are. These people look to him for permission to hate publicly. Some Democrats are going to get bashed (and potentially killed) because of this.

Nuance: So Trump was agreeing with 'somebody' who said not clapping him was treasonous. Yeah, he was being cheeky, he had a glint in his eye, but he still said it didn't he. But he wasn't being light-hearted when he said that Democrats where un-American was he? On that he seemed deathly serious. Whether joking or not, that kind of rhetoric has a distinctly authoritarian flavour to it.

Stock market? A nothingburger. Buy hotels if you have to invest. That is what Trump did. We are still paying for his bankruptcies.

Wasn't he going to release his tax returns when he got elected? How long does an IRS audit actually take?

He said that he 'couldn't' release any tax returns because he was under audit by the IRS. (There is no requirement that returns under audit must be kept from release to the public.) He claimed that when the audit was completed he would release his tax returns. However, given Kellyanne Conway's statement that he will not release them, I suppose his claim can be added to the list of 'lies about inconsequential matters,' since according to Conway, 'people didn't care' about President Bogus's tax returns.

That guy in Korea gets them all the time!

'Pentagon planning grand military parade through Washington, D.C. on President Trump’s "marching orders"'
In a move more evocative of North Korea than the U.S., President Trump recently ordered some of his highest-ranking officials to start planning a grand military parade through Washington, D.C., according to a Pentagon official.

"We are aware of the request and are looking at options," Pentagon spokesman Charlie Summers told reporters Tuesday evening.

Summers' confirmation came minutes after sources told the Washington Post that Trump mused about a parade featuring marching soldiers and rolling tanks during a Pentagon meeting on Jan. 18 with Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, Joint Chiefs Chairman Joseph Dunford and other senior officials.

"The marching orders were: I want a parade like the one in France," a Pentagon source briefed on the discussions told the newspaper. "This is being worked at the highest levels of the military."

We have an equilibrium: Undocumented immigrant population in U.S. stays flat for eighth straight year (11 million)

They can go back and forth as needed for illegal immigrant type of jobs. And the idiot wants a wall. It will be harder for them to go back!
