The thread of crazy cricket hijinks!

Post by pErvinalia » Fri Dec 29, 2017 2:23 am

There's so many characters in the sport of cricket, and their stories deserve their own thread. I was going to post a video of Kerry O'Keefe's funniest moments, but instead opted for a funny telling of the legendary event that is David Boon sinking 52 cans of beer on the flight from Sydney to London. The teller is Dean Jones, probably my biggest hero when I was a lad (beside Dennis Lilley, Greg Chappell and Alan Border). I didn't realise that he was such a good story teller. I had the impression that he was a bit of a wanker in real life. Anyway, the story starts proper at about the 2 minute mark. Stay till the end for his funny story about the game they had to play the very next day after winning the Ashes for the first time in 17,000 years. :D. On stage there is his former captain, Alan Border (Captain Grumpy), fellow team mate Rodney Hogg, and I don't know who the guy on the far left is.

Future additions to this thread could include the day they released a pig onto the field of the Gabba(?) with Botham written on the side of it while Ian Botham the legendary English boor was batting, anything from Kerry O'Keefe and Rodney Hogg, and of course The 12th Man. :)

An ashes test with a difference.

Regional match at Baddeley Park, Cessnock in 2002. The backdraft kept sucking the bails off the stumps, so it was decided to continue play without them. Still, the proceedings came to a premature end when the flames started burning the outfield and the pitch began to emit wisps of steam. The umpire declared the game "burnt out".

I went to a cricket match last Summer with a friend. I asked loads of questions, much to his chagrin. I came away understanding nothing.

The big mistake was introducing the game to Yorkshire in the mid 18th century.

I didn't like the way both teams looked the same. Very silly.

Biggest mistake ever. Any such attempt should have been boycotted.
