While the intention is good, unfortunately that's a ludicrous idea. It would be too easy to forge. And an iris scan works just as quickly and would be very hard to cheat.

What's wrong with fingerprints?

I don't know, but they haven't taken off for some reason. They started doing a finger print login for laptops, but they soon dropped it.
DNA would be the most reliable, but takes too long.
I don't really know much about iris scans, except that the banks seem to trust them, but they haven't taken off in a big way either. Maybe the hardware is too expensive?

Seems like iris recognition is the future. The lens doesn't need to get close up, it can work at a distance.

Volunteers could be deployed to help plug gaps in the UK’s Border Force, which has undergone drastic cuts under successive Conservative-led governments.

The plan, similar to the use of special constables in the police, is being considered in Whitehall. Critics, however, say doing so would be risky and caution against using a “Dad’s Army” to guard Britain’s frontiers.

Under the proposal, teams of volunteers would be used to bolster staffing levels at the Border Force, which manages immigration and customs controls. The government stressed that involving volunteers in immigration enforcement was not under discussion....

Just had a look at the currency markets.
Sterling is about 2c down against the Euro on the last year. ( a Euro that is massively up against the mighty dollar on the year ).

Shall we call it the two cent crisis ? :funny:

Are you not conflating currency futures with national economic performance? The stock market is up too, but inflation is rising and wage growth falls behind month-on-month.
