What did David Davis say about the Brexit impact papers, and when?

After months of saying they had been carried out in 'excruciating detail', David Davis eventually told parliament the UK government had produced no forecasts on the likely impact of Brexit on various sectors of the economy. Here is what he has said in public on the subject since June 2016.

12 September 2016, To the House of Lords select committee on the EU

• “It will take some months to analyse many of the industrial and commercial effects of various options, and to do the analysis on the negotiating balance – where our allies might and might not be. We will take some time – the process has already started.”

13 September 2016, To the House of Commons foreign affairs committee

• “There is the sectoral analysis. They [staff at DExEU] are working through about 50 cross-cutting sectors: what is going to happen to them, what the problems of those industrial groups are, and so on.”

20 October 2016, In the House of Commons

• “The government continue to undertake a wide range of analysis covering all parts of the UK to inform the UK’s position for the upcoming negotiation with the European partners … We currently have in place an assessment of 51 sectors of the economy."

1 December 2016, In the House of Commons

• “We are carrying out an extensive programme of sectoral analysis on the key factors that affect our negotiations with the European Union.”

• “We are in the midst of carrying out about 57 sets of analyses, each of which has implications for individual parts of 85% of the economy. Some of those are still to be concluded.”

• “In my job I don’t think out loud and I don’t make guesses. Those two things. I try and make decisions. You make those based on the data. That data’s being gathered. We’ve got 50, nearly 60 sector analyses already done.”

• “She [Theresa May] will know the summary outcomes of them. She will not necessarily have read every single one. They are in excruciating detail.”

So David Davis doesn't know what impact Brexit will have on the UK, nor has he or anyone in government studied or researched the possible impacts of various types of outcome - but we know it's going to Make Great Britain Great Again whatever it is, right? Right?

At long last, I can make a p[ost that addresses the OP.

Labour is coming under pressure from leading pro-remain campaigners to clarify its stance on Brexit, after polling showed that a quarter of its current voters could switch party by the next election and more than half would oppose Labour backing Brexit.

The poll of people planning to vote Labour – conducted by YouGov for the Best of Britain campaign group – found 24% said they may change their minds before the next election, and two-thirds of those who voted remain would be disappointed or angry if Labour says it will proceed with Brexit.

So, some among the Tory old guard think a Labour government would be getter than Brexit!

Michael Heseltine, the Tory grandee and former deputy prime minister, has suggested a Labour government led by Jeremy Corbyn could be less damaging than Brexit.

The peer made the claim, which is remarkable for a senior Conservative, in an interview for the Limehouse podcast about liberal and EU politics, as he was pressed on how catastrophic he believes Brexit will be for the UK.

Heseltine, a longstanding pro-EU politician, signalled that he still views a Labour government as having a negative effect on the country, but said leaving the EU could be worse in the long term. He also suggested Labour would eventually turn against Brexit and the Conservatives would be “left holding the baby”, as leaving the EU grows more unpopular.

One thing we still don’t have in the UK is ID cards. I’m pleased about that in an irrational sort of way.

We dont either as they are optional. It is easier carrying an ID card though being the standard credit card size than a passport and being a small country you are very quickly over the border. Schengen still requires you to be able to identify yourself to those that have the power to demand it.
The trouble in the UK you dont register so nobody knows where everyone lives. Here you must register your residential address at the town hall.

In what was is it 'trouble'?

I don't give a rats arse how many immigrants we have. There's plenty of work and they'll go somewhere else when there isn't.

No? How does anyone know who lives where? The tory government failed to use the EU regulations to control EU immigration and the blamed it on the EU.

I agree. I've always been for compulsory ID cards. It should have been done years ago. And compulsory taking of finger prints and dna of everyone. Including at the ports.
When did an innocent person ever suffer from being identified?

Not that we will ever be out. I think we need Farage back. They really are working at it to not leave.
