One "amazing fact" that you often hear, is that the great barrier reef is the biggest living thing on Earth, about 2,000 km long.
I would disagree though. It's not "a living thing" it's billions of living things.
If you counted it as a living thing, you would have to count the Pacific Ocean as a living thing, or the Northern tundra or Tiga.
While there is a market for shit, there will be assholes to supply it.

A specimen of the Armillaria ostoyae fungus found in Malheur National Forest, Oregon, US, is the largest living organism yet discovered - 2000+ acres in size and between 2000 - 8000 years old.

Interesting. I think the King Billy pines in Tasmania's highlands are one organism. Or maybe that's only in one section. Hermit will google the details.

From memory, they're not so much one organism but a population of clones with little genetic diversity.

A bit like republicans... :tea:

You realise that doesn't compute (not the republican bit)? Clones are genetically identical.

I had the wrong "pine" anyway. It's the Huon Pine.
A stand of trees reputed to be in excess of 10,500 years old was recently found in western Tasmania on Mount Read. Each of the trees in this stand is a genetically identical male that has reproduced vegetatively. Although no single tree in this stand is of that age, the stand itself as a single organism has existed that long.[8]

Yes, but are they the same organism?
