Thanks guys, others have it so much worse. My parents house has flooded, they've called for a boat. If things continue to improve, my house should be fine. You may be able to fish the neighbors yard from my porch, but it's receding.

Thanks Jim. My parents barely did. Apparently they had to call 911 a second time, and the dispatcher said they had no record of the first call. So nobody was on their way! Thankfully they got picked up by a boat and then by the fire department. A lot of people are helping everywhere. My mom's being optimistic. But it doesn't sound like they'll be moving back soon. The water rose quickly and the river behind their house is still rising today.
It's hard to believe this bullshit. We had two 100 year floods within a month of each other last year, and this is what, an 800 year flood, one year later? I feel so bad for the people around here that have lost everything again.

It's shocking indeed. I really hope that things will work out well for those who've been caught out. Some of the stories of people helping each other have been quite inspirational, showing that the innate decency and compassion of regular folks really comes to the fore in a crisis like this. Unfortunately things are pointing to this happening more and more. Creeping rises in sea levels and temperatures are gong to make the Gulf even more of a breeding ground for larger and more frequent storms. Communities like Houston etc can only take so much of this before the option of permanently abandoning low-lying and exposed coastal areas seems like the only rational thing to do. That's sad, because action could have been taken already to minimise these growing risks.
