“When I was in college, I took a terrorism class. ... The thing that was interesting in the class was every time the professor said ‘Al Qaeda’ his shoulders went up, But you know, it is that you don’t say ‘America’ with an intensity, you don’t say ‘England’ with the intensity. You don’t say ‘the army’ with the intensity,” she continued. “... But you say these names [Al Qaeda] because you want that word to carry weight. You want it to be something.” - Ilhan Omar

This is going to get good. The Liberals here are traditionally seen as the more serious (read: kiss ass) government. They've refused to mock Trump openly. I hope Trump has a twitter rant about this.

Investment bankers are not renowned for their skills as comedians and Turnbull is a prime example. Tryhard.

Flesh-eating bugs at Brighton beach: What really ate Sam and why
Carolyn Webb Ebony Bowden Liam Mannix
News of a teenage boy's legs being treated as dinner by flesh-eating sea critters as he took a dip at a Melbourne beach has brought back all-too-vivid memories of the frenzied feasting in 1970s flick Piranha.
Social media and radio talkback was awash on Monday with members of the public vowing never to swim in the sea again after 16-year-old Sam Kanizay emerged from a dip at Brighton beach on Saturday night with his lower legs covered in blood and tiny bite marks.
Yep, it's been the big local story for a while. Rather a freak thing, actually - he was standing still in the water for quite some time, probably right next to wear a number of amphipods were feeding on something dead, and they latched on to him (he probably had a small existing cut). The marine biologists are speculating that something in there equivalent of saliva has an anti-clotting agent, to explain the extent of his bleeding.

Something to laugh at before the Trump 'n Kim show goes nuclear.
Our conservative government has finally recognised that legalising same sex marriages is only a matter of time. So, what has it decided to do about it? Delay the inevitable. Of course. Cheap at 120 million bucks. Yes, that is the budget for the plebiscite on the matter it has announced. Plebiscites are of course non-binding in Australia, so once we have voted in favour of legalising same sex marriages, the government will forbid its parliamentary members to vote according to their conscience, and reject the result. As if it could not have done so without spending all that mulah first.
Makes me proud to live in Australia. No. Wait.

If Turnbull clearly and publicly states (as I think he already has) that a yes result will mean a free vote in Parliament, I think that a free vote will occur. I'm fairly certain that this would be a yes vote in parliament, as well.
But I agree it is still absurd - there should be a free vote right now, which would save time and money. But Turnbull is in political danger from the conservative faction of the coalition, and cannot allow it, without a plebiscite, either postal or otherwise.
Take our strictified entry conditions to this lucky country, for instance. So, now someone has been refused a skilled work visa coz' she's flunked the computer-based Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic), which was approved by the Australian Government’s Department of Immigration and Border Protection in 2014, and uses voice recognition technology. The person concerned has a doctorate in veterinary science and is Irish.
