People weren't marching yesterday just for the hell of it. In addition to an agenda of defunding Planned Parenthood, which gives many low income women access to health care they might not be able to get otherwise, Trump is likely to appoint somebody like William Pryor (whose views on abortion and equal LGBTQ rights are extremely regressive) to the Supreme Court. Trump is also looking to eliminate funding for programs that assist victims of domestic violence.

Trump presidency begins with defense of false 'alternative facts'

Rattled by the nation’s biggest political demonstrations since the Vietnam war, Trump and his aides spent an extraordinary first weekend in office falsely claiming that record numbers of people had attended his swearing-in on Friday.

Trump’s press secretary, Sean Spicer, used his first White House briefing to shout at journalists about what he termed “deliberately false reporting” on Trump’s inauguration, declaring: “We’re going to hold the press accountable.”

“This was the largest audience ever to witness an inauguration, period,” said Spicer, in one of several statements contradicted by photographs and transit data. “These attempts to lessen the enthusiasm of the inauguration are shameful and wrong.”

Kellyanne Conway, a senior White House aide, told NBC’s Meet the Press on Sunday Spicer had merely been offering “alternative facts”, a phrase that was received with widespread astonishment.

Their remarks followed an estimated 2.6 million people in cities across the US attending “women’s march” protests against Trump, who is accused of sexually harassing and assaulting more than a dozen women and was recorded boasting about groping women by the crotch...

My BernieBrain neighbors went to the Gazillion Women's March thingy here in town. They're posting all sorts of shite on FB, really giving those Fascist Bastards a hard time. They'll probably put some sort of ribbon sticker on their Prius. They're just so....righteous, ya know?

This thing about the crowd and audience size concerns me. Why are they bothering with garbage like that? The response to the media reports of how Trump didn't meet Obama's audience size should have been met with "are you kidding me? you're reporting on crowd size? We're not going to dignify this sort of thing with a response. Anyone have a substantive question?"

But, Spicer went Trumpian about it, and declared the largest audience ever (including both attendees and those viewing it via electronic media devices). However, I haven't found any evidence to back up Spicer's claim. I certainly think it's "possible" given the ever growing connectedness of the world, that this was the most viewed inauguration ever (just because more people have devices that would let them view it anytime, anywhere, than ever before. However, even acknowledging that possibility is not enough. Spicer needs to back up the claim with some sort of ratings numbers or data. They haven't. So, I dismiss his claim on that basis alone.

The crowd size did not appear to me, watching it on C-SPAN, to be nearly as big as Obama's crowd. So, in terms of actual attendees, I would give the nod to Obama for larger crowd size. Do I know for sure? No. But, the Obama crowds look far bigger - not even close.

But, who gives a flying fuck?
