Not directly or explicitly, sure, and the reason, as you said, is a statistical algorithm.
However, the effect on human readers is to confirm and maintain the bias; children reading that will unconsciously absorb the bias, without taking on board the fact that we know that men can be nurses and women can be doctors.
It's quite the assertion on SD's part. Take out the retired doctor category (65+) and in most provinces here the male/female ratio is pretty much 50/50. Also look at the under 35 and 35-44. It's 60/40 in favour of females in some cases.

Thee's right.
We have lots of gender neutral pronouns we can use instead, darling.

I'm sure you're right about doctors - I have noticed many more female ones in recent years. However, nurses are still mainly female, although there has been a slow increase in male nurses...

And, don't get me started on senor and senorita and senora. it's time for the Spanish speakers to start dealing with zhenor and zhenorita and zhenora and a bunch of other gender pronouns. And el and ella -- time for zhel and zhella and xel and xella.

They wear the stethoscopes and wield the scalpels in increasing numbers: women make up 54 percent of physicians below the age of 35 in Britain, 58 percent in France and almost 64 percent in Spain, according to the latest figures from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, which tracks the trend in more than 30 countries.
.....
Over the past three decades, the proportion of women in medical schools has risen in Europe, the United States, Canada, Australia and South Africa. Most medical schools in England have more female students than male, with almost 56 percent, or 5,170, in the entering classes last year. At the current rate, the Royal College of Physicians expects women to make up the majority of all doctors in Britain by 2017.

It's the cuckisisation of medicine. Particularly with male nurses. What kind of poofta becomes a male nurse?!
