I did actually read something the other day from a reputable source (I think it was NY Times) pointing out that significant crop yield increases haven't been realised with the use of GMO's. And pesticide use is significantly down, but of course herbicide use (mainly glyphosate) is up given glyphosate resistant modifications to crops.

I saw a water engineer on tv the other day make the statement that if you took a full-size olympic swimming pool full of pure water, and dropped one slug pellet in it, it would fail the test for pesticide levels.
While there is a market for shit, there will be assholes to supply it.
