Netherlands Election 2017

Post by Forty Two » Mon Nov 28, 2016 2:55 pm

This one should be a barn-burner -- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_gen ... tion,_2017

First, it's amazing how undemocratic this system is, and doesn't it really need to be changed? We must directly elect a head of government or head of state, don't we? The system allows someone who has not been elected by popular vote to hold Minister-President authority. It's a first world country, and according to the Dutch constitution, the Government is constituted by an unelected King and the ministers, not by popular vote! The constitution stipulates the Minister-President is appointed by "royal decree" (article 43)! Decree! My word...something must be done about this lack of democracy.

Second, who is in the running and leading in the polls -- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opinion_p ... tion,_2017 - the polls there show the parties in play across the top of the chart (by initials), and their seats in the Parliament. I'll see if I can find some polling as to who the Dutch people would prefer as their MInister-President, but since it's really not done by popular vote and the voters only vote for the people running for their legislator/parliamentarian in their precinct/district/riding (whatever they call it), that may be hard information to come by.

So, who's going to win? What are the key issues in Dutch politics?

I find that hard to believe. Whatever they're doing, it must be democracy.

Given the complete lack of interest in the threads concerning the important European elections coming up in 2017, I think I will conclude that Europeans don't give a shit about their own politics, and they seem to be more interested in American politics. Perhaps that's why they don't recognize the warts and blemishes on their own systems.

They'll be like the democrats in the US. After a right wing nut job takes the prize, then they'll all of a sudden wake up and care. Bit late, dicks.

Raising dykes evidently. I question the wisdom of that since it will lead to a decrease in procreation and the eventual end of the Dutch people...if Islam doesn't kill them all first.

Frankly I think its the dykes who do the finger-sticking if I'm not mistaken.

Could be they don't give a fuck because they know they are already fucked no matter what they do so what's the point?

But, the right wing nut jobs in western Europe are what Americans call "progressive leftists." You know, like, the political spectrum is all shifted right in the US that being right wing in Europe is considered radical left in the US. So, the worst that could happen in the Netherregions is that the equivalent of the Liberal Democrats will take power.

Nobody takes power. It has to be negotiated. It is always a coalition something the Anglo-American mind as great problems with.

Yes, your parliament members choose the head of government. That would be, in the case of the US, the members of the US Congress choosing the head of our government. Our Congresspeople, like your parliamentarians, are elected by direct, popular vote. So, surely it would be just as "democratic" for them to pick the head of government without a separate popular vote for candidates for head of government, right? So, the fact that the US adds a state-by-state popular vote to the mix, where states send representatives to cast the states' ballots, is not less democratic. I mean, unless you think the newly elected Republican Congress should just go ahead an appoint a head of government, and you think that would be more democratic....
