Conversely, had the value of your shares dropped you would have lost nothing unless you were forced to sell your shares at that point. Some owners are forced to sell when their share holdings are leveraged and the banks call in their loans. I gather your shares are not leveraged, so that danger does not apply to you either way.

Hillary Clinton now 2 million votes ahead of Donald Trump

Democrat's lead over the President-elect reaches margin of 1.5 per cent

Donald Trump continues to spend his days ensconced in Trump Tower as he puts together his government. All the while, the lead enjoyed over him in the popular vote by his rival Hillary Clinton, continues to grow.

On Wednesday, it emerged that Ms Clinton’s margin of victory over Mr Trump in the popular vote had now passed two million people.

Dave Wasserman of the nonpartisan Cook Political Report, said Ms Clinton had now collected 64,223,958 votes, compared to Mr Trump’s 62,206,395.

Ms Clinton’s scale of victory over Mr Trump in the popular vote is larger than the previous occasions in US history where the person who won the popular vote, lost the Electoral College.

Other presidential hopefuls who won the popular vote but lost the election include Democrat Al Gore in 2000, Democratic-Republican Andrew Jackson in 1824, Democrat Samuel Tilden in 1876 and Democrat Grover Cleveland in 1888.

Before this year, Mr Gore had the record for presidential losers who won the popular vote. He beat Republican George W Bush by 543,816.

A week after his historic election, Mr Trump tweeted: “The Electoral College is actually genius in that it brings all states, including the smaller ones, into play. Campaigning is much different!”

In 2012, he appeared to have a different view.

“The Electoral College is a disaster for a democracy,” Mr Trump said, when Mr Obama beat Mitt Romney.

Nobody wants Commifornia and New York wankers picking the president every year and that is why the Electoral College exists. You don't get to complain about it just because EC didn't give the result you wanted. The American people can now start to get it removed for future elections if that is what they want.

Actually, the electoral college was a political fudge brought about to counter the prospect of suffrage rights leading to Southern indentured labourers swinging the popular vote away from their masters.

No, that was the "three-fifths" provision which intended to prevent slave owners from using their slaves as multipliers for their representation in Congress.

A Montana Synagogue has asked local police for protection from threats by Nazi groups. Some see this as related to an increase in anti-Semitic activities since Donald Trump’s election.

The Billings Gazette has reported that the Har Shalom synagogue in Missoula Montana has been under police protection after it requested help. The Jewish community in the city is concerned after people spread Nazi propaganda in the area. The Gazette further reported that the propaganda was not limited to attacks on Jews.
