Looks like it will be a bit to the north. We're getting rain, but I really don't think it's huge. My town is over 100 feet above sea level, so we don't expect much flooding -- plus, I'm about 50 miles from the coast. So, I'm like:

“When I was in college, I took a terrorism class. ... The thing that was interesting in the class was every time the professor said ‘Al Qaeda’ his shoulders went up, But you know, it is that you don’t say ‘America’ with an intensity, you don’t say ‘England’ with the intensity. You don’t say ‘the army’ with the intensity,” she continued. “... But you say these names [Al Qaeda] because you want that word to carry weight. You want it to be something.” - Ilhan Omar

I meant double the number of people going thru healthcare-gov and getting the subsidies. You could never "double the pool." There were, like, 40 million uninsured out of country of 330, 000,000 million. How the fuck do you "double the pool?"
So you could enroll more people if the plans made sense, if they sold what the people want.Goldman Sachs estimates that total coverage under the ACA increased by 13 to 14 million last year and may have increased by another 4 million during the first five months of 2015, for a total coverage increase of 17 to 18 million combined.

Re: The Hillary-thread
There were zero before, and after the ACA there're about 12 million who applied at the ACA. Nobody really knows how many actually got insurance through there, though. A lot of people put in their info, but never bought the insurance. The data are unreliable.Tero wrote:I meant double the number of people going thru healthcare-gov and getting the subsidies. You could never "double the pool." The reason there were so many "uninsured" before is that you had millions of single people, or married couples with no kids, who were making good money -- $50k to $75k -- who didn't want to spend a few hundred dollars a month on health insurance. They sure as hell don't want to spend double that now.Tero wrote:So you could enroll more people if the plans made sense, if they sold what the people want.Goldman Sachs estimates that total coverage under the ACA increased by 13 to 14 million last year and may have increased by another 4 million during the first five months of 2015, for a total coverage increase of 17 to 18 million combined.
Helping the poor and those who couldn't "afford" health insurance was never the issue. If it was, then they'dve made a determination as to what level of income required what assistance, and just provide either free insurance (Medicaid), or make it a sliding scale where there's a reduced subsidy as your income went up.
The reason they did not do that, however, is that most of the uninsured would not qualify for subsidies because they make too much money (unless you give people subsidies up to like $75,000 a year for a single person).
Obamacare is a monstrosity that doesn't do what it set out to do.
Where are all the cries about all the uninsured now??? Why did those cries die down? Why is the media not screaming about the 30 million people left uninsured now? If there is one thing that exemplifies the media being in the pocket of the Democratic Party it's the fact that they don't give a flying fuck about uninsured people anymore, and nobody is criticizing the government now for not making sure everyone has health insurance. Add to that the fact that they don't care anymore who gets bombed or whether we are engaged in extrajudicial executions without indictment or trial.... I mean, under Bush, you couldn't even hold prisoners without a trial - that was some kind of war crime - under Obama, we can drop bombs on civilians at the direction of the President without trial and it's just fine.

Re: The Hillary-thread
It is purely privately run but the Medical Inspectorate has the last say in everything and is very strict. The real big difference to almost any other system and is typical Dutch is the joint committee of Inspectorate, drug companies, hospitals (represents all health institutions) and patient representatives. Once a year, contributions and prices (including drugs) are reviewed and fixed for the coming year. Nobody is allowed to deviate. Also salaries are reviewed and if required adjusted.Brian Peacock wrote:The Netherlands has a similar system, except everyone is obliged to have basic health insurance and where the government will subsidise it according to a means test. Unlike the US-model though basic cover will entirely meet your medical needs - and you can top up your cover for various ancillary extras. If a physician decides that a particular treatment is appropriate the insurer covers the cost - regardless. Medics prescribe: insurers pay. Insurers still make loads of money because most people are not expensively ill most of the time. The US-model reduces treatment and care to a unit cost equation - in effect, treating only to a level which the insurer considers is profitable for them.
No insurance company can refuse to insure anyone and everyone must be insured. There is no privileged private health anymore. It does not matter who you are everyone is given the same treatment.
Another very important principle is the 'gate keeper'. All treatment starts with your GP. He decides what your treatment requirements will be and as Brian said the insurance company has no say at all in anything. Once you have seen a specialist and the course of treatment is finished you can only contact him directly within six months then everything has to go through your GP again.
All this a lead to the Dutch system being the best in Europe. And the price? Well I pay €125.29 per month and that includes an additional 3 star coverage (out of a max of 4 stars). I pay per year €380 own costs. While basic insurance is fixed the additional insurance differs from company to company and is where they make additional profits.

Where Has Hillary Clinton Been?
Ask the Ultrarich.
This is from the NYT which has been shilling for her as well. She loves the poor and downtrodden so much we will not even see them.
This is utterly despicable:
"The campaign’s finance team is led by Dennis Cheng, previously the chief fund-raiser for the Clinton Foundation, and it employs a couple dozen staff members. Mr. Cheng, who attends the events with Mrs. Clinton, offers donors a number of contribution options that provide them and their families varying levels of access to Mrs. Clinton. John Morgan, a Florida lawyer and donor, described Mr. Cheng as “the master concierge.”
For a donation of $2,700, the children (under 16) of donors at an event last month at the Sag Harbor, N.Y., estate of the hedge fund magnate Adam Sender could ask Mrs. Clinton a question. A family photo with Mrs. Clinton cost $10,000, according to attendees."

Let me guess (without even googling it) that $2,700 is some individual donation limit. She doesn't even hide it, all she cares about is your money.

The state department had security training for all but Hillary. The underlings were supposed to take care of secrets and file them away. Not Hillary's fault!!!

A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.
