Abso-lootelly.

It is so bleeding obvious that I'm amazed that some people are incapable of grasping this simple concept.

Well, and I assert that the "Islamic State" was established by secularist Iraqi ex-military leaders who want their power back that they lost when the US destroyed Saddam. (and not for emotional reasons of being faithful believers) :prof:

There is some truth in this, as well. Motivations for religious wars also include a desire for power over others. However, religious wars have a tendency to add an additional emotional fervour to the more cold-blooded drive to dominate others...

I think there was a lot of emotional fervour in the French Revolution and the Russian Revolution as well.

I doubt as much fervour as the promise of 72 virgins in the afterlife.

And you just have to study the history of revolutions in Europe in the 19th and 20th century (mostly France and Russia) only a bit to see how deeply opposition to religion was embedded in the used ideologies. Both the Jacobines and the European communists were really big on being anti-religion and pro rationality.

For sure, but revolutions tend to overthrow established authority 'in the name of' the people. Both the Jacobines and the East European communists were anti-Monarchist constitutionalists who saw the Roman Catholic Church as an arm of the aristocracy, which indeed it was.

Young kids today have no idea what a revolution is like.

Buncha pussies, these kids. One whiff of CS and they run crying to their mamas. Back when we were manning the barricades they issued live ammo to the National Guard.

It's a weird generation. I was watching Nova last night, and they had this 88 year old guy going down in a submarine off of Normandy to visit the ship that sank out from under him back in World War 2. The guy was 18 when he was on the ship. He was very clear, though, that what he went through did not even hold a candle to the Twitter harassment of today. When he was told that college students were subjected to being told they speak English well, and asked where their families are from originally, he couldn't believe it. And, he gave back his purple heart and bronze star medals when he found out that the song "Blurred Lines" was legal in some countries.
“When I was in college, I took a terrorism class. ... The thing that was interesting in the class was every time the professor said ‘Al Qaeda’ his shoulders went up, But you know, it is that you don’t say ‘America’ with an intensity, you don’t say ‘England’ with the intensity. You don’t say ‘the army’ with the intensity,” she continued. “... But you say these names [Al Qaeda] because you want that word to carry weight. You want it to be something.” - Ilhan Omar

Muslims are not wonderful people. There are no wonderful people. They're all aggressive, semi-sentient ground apes and the world will be a much better place when they're extinct.
