The suspect told authorities that he was there for the Los Angeles Pride festival, which is underway this weekend. "We're assisting our local partners," Los Angeles FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller told CNN. She would not provide additional details. A police news conference is expected shortly.

I agree with Lak that the twisted logic of religious extremism is the culprit here, but it's no use pretending that having easy access to guns doesn't at least make this an easier option for nut-jobs. Gun massacres happen for loads of differing motives. Sometimes it's religion, sometimes it's politics, sometimes it's resentment.
There will always be nutters in America. Lots of them. Just like there are nutters everywhere.
But the USA has more, and they can get machine guns for peanuts.

And they are starting to learn just how many people they can kill, before they get taken out, if they have the right guns.

It's pathetic how Americans start blathering about ISIS, or home-grown nutters, or wondering why they did it.
We all know why they do it. A million different motives, but mainly it's because they CAN.
They don't even have to pay for the guns. They can just get them on a credit card. Nobody's going to be able to collect the payments.

Stop whining, America. You want machine guns, that's the price. And it will only get bigger.
