...which is plenty. Homosexuals, fascists and racists tend to feel obliged to vehemently deny that they are not homosexuals, fascists or racists in social environments where those things are disapproved of. People who are not homosexuals, fascists or racists feel no need to deny that they are. I heard my father say "I am not a racist. One of my best friends is a Jew." on more than one occasion - sometimes without even being asked about the matter. Only the latter was true. He was not a Nazi, but he was definitely a racist.



That's him on the left. His father, on the right, was not a Nazi either. My other grandfather, however, was a card carrying member of the NSDAP, and to my knowledge he never denied being a Nazi. He spent some time in Siberia for that, returning to Germany in December 1952.

There are parts of some of our larger cities in which immigrant populations have settled and gathered in concentrated numbers - people from earlier and usually invited waves. The Midlands had a shortage of bus drivers, boot and show workers and the like and they recruited in the Indian sub-continent.

If you go to the west of Birmingham, which is the area I know best, the feel of the place is distinctly Indian/Asian. The shops are old style 'market' type shops, there are outlets for Indian food of all sorts, shops selling fabric for saris - and the like.

I know the area well and used to have a night out or stop for lunch now and again. The place is wonderful - and despite appearances perhaps, very British.

Prefer Redditch. It is the outskirts of Wolverhampton you are on about. Not so much where East meets West more where drugs meets small business owners. Looks pretty in the day time.
