Why there is only one "Race"

Categorise people into races by a feature like skin colour is no different than defining 'big nose' or 'tiny ear' people into distinct races. And if race-group membership is inheritable, as we're often asked to accept, what does that make the small-nosed child of big-nosed parent - other than 'cute' of course? Categorising people into races by geographical location is similarly problematic, but I won't go on other than to say the whole idea of distinct human races is a non-starter.
