Overrated cover versions

Post by klr » Fri Jul 24, 2009 9:06 am

A counterpoint to this thread: http://rationalia.com/forum/viewtopic.p ... 466#p42466

This thread does what it says on the tin. Cover versions that are overrated, often because they were done by someone really famous, with the originally being overlooked (even forgotten) because it was done by someone relatively obscure.

First up: I Don't Want to Talk About It ... made famous by Rod Stewart :|~. I refuse to post a link to this in any form :hmph:. Anyway, I used to (grudgingly) think this was a good song, until I heard the original version by Crazy Horse:

Jealous Guy by Roxy Music is absolutely woeful, and it's the version I always hear on the radio. Why can't they just play Lennon's original.

Also, if the Christian Beatle haters want to burn any of his stuff then Lennon's version of Stand By Me should be first on the pyre.

Actually, they do play the Lennon original at times, but not enough for my liking.

Speaking of Christians, The Christians version of 'The Bottle' sounded good to me until I heard the Gil Scott-Heron original.

Good one.

George Michael - Somebody to Love.

I was at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert and everybody thought he was shit, yet the media persists in saying he stole the show. When I watched it again on TV I thought he was shit. And it's still shit.

Roger Daltrey's version of I Want It All stole the show, but he wasn't as hot in the charts at the time.
